Ooooh, I'd love a bowla: The Cereal Thread

Post by squirrelboutique » Wed May 28, 2008 03:29

I've partly plagiarized the title of this thread.

Cereal! I often look at the "what are you cooking for dinner tonight, recipe and all?" thread and wonder if I'm sort of sad for thinking "I'm having cereal."

I am currently possibly addicted to Special K Chocolatey Delight. I'm pretending it's really good for me maybe.

I also get made fun of pretty frequently for pushing two different restaurants for breakfast because they have really good homemade oatmeal.

these are the two cereals in my cupboard right now. because i'm a boring guy.

the flax plus cereal is more appetizing than the name would suggest.

don't you hate when they change the ingredients to your favourite childhood cereals? cap'n crunch and cocoa puffs don't taste the way i remember. that and they tear the shit out of my mouth. either i had steel gums as a kid or they've added some hard-core preservatives. i.e. cement.

did anyone else make marshmallow balls out of their lucky charms? i'd pick out all of the superfluous oat bits until all there was left were marshmallow bits. then i'd take all of the remaining marshmallows bits and smush them up into a litte colourful ball. and then i'd eat it. like an apple.

Oh man, we would have cereal for dinner all the TIME when I was a kid and my mom went back to school and we still put this gendered heteronormative pressure on her to still cook us some goddamn dinner in the evenings. I know better now, of course, but I still became quite the connoisseur.

Childhood faves: Lucky Charms, Cap'n Crunch, Cookie Crisp, Kix, Cocoa Puffs, Sugar Smacks/Golden Crisp (same fucking cereal!), Trix, Cheerios (of course), Rice Krispies (of course), Fruity Pebbles, Honeycomb, Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops, and the occasional Eggo. Cream of Wheat is also most righteous.

And everyone knows the marshmallows from Lucky Charms are the dessert of breakfast.

Funnily enough, my favorite cereal list is pretty much the exact same now, only with the additions of Frosted Mini-Wheats, Special K, and Banana Nut Crunch. My pantry looks like Seinfeld's, I fucking LOVE CEREAL.

My sister eats Waffle Crisp which makes me want to vom.

I still like that peanut butter Cap'n Crunch, and Barbara's Peanut Butter Puffins are a nice adultish alternative (cuppie will tell you otherwise).

Ooh, Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch is a rare but welcome treat. I like it, I just never buy it. Honey Nut Cheerios fall into this category, as well.

I remember when they added green cereal to Apple Jacks and KEPT IT THAT WAY. I thought at the time it was a limited edition, but no, apparantly monochromatic cereal wasn't hip and '90s enough.

Also? Seriously? Cereals used to have prizes. They don't anymore. Full stop. And I don't count Dora the Explorer stickers as a toy, I mean honest-to-god 3 dimensional plastic items you could poke yourself with or choke on.

i remember i used to love frosted rice crispies. then, when i moved to the states i couldn't find them. yeah, moving to the states was a big mistake.

Image

luckily they had cocoa krispies.
oddly, they were not endorsed by snap, crackle, and pop. but, rather, a cartoon monkey named coco. later replaced by a real life chimpanzee.
which was annoying on two fronts: 1. chimpanzees are not monkeys, vice versa. and, 2. who wants to look at a chimp's wrinkly skin while eating cereal?

i know i don't. i mean, you might as well put a picture of some old people on the box.

I hate myself for laughing at it, but those Rob and Big guys from MTV reenacted that Good Friends cereal box on their show, and it was pretty funny.

No, they taste like how you would describe an apple to someone who has never eaten one. Cruncy, sweet, and it will cut your mouth.

Kashi Autumn Fuckin' Wheat. I love it. I once ate half a box one by one out of the box with my bear hands. I may have been hungover and without anything else to eat. It was fun.
