Ah, the old 'it just fell off the shelf' ruse...

hehe! it totally did! i didn't encourage it to fall off in any way. that stuff costs nearly £5 a jar so i would never have got to try it otherwise. the first time i took home a broken-seal jar of peanut butter though, i wasn't really thinking about the implications of the seal being broken - and i ended up with a bag full of peanut oil. it's impossible to get rid of altogether. i hardly ever use that bag now, i'm scared i'll go near someone with a severe peanut allergy and kill them. eep!

Crikey, I've just been out for three hours and come home to see that people have well and truly taken the toast making machine baton and run with it.

yup i think grumpytimes has gone to bed covered in marmite. i usually wait til morning to cover my hands and face in spreads (marmalade in particular, it's so sticky) but i think it shows admirable dedication to the cause. i guess we will all be able to learn from the results of his experiment tomorrow.

BUMMER. i've never tried any of those fanciful peanut butter alternatives but had heard they were unnecessary variations. now there's a really good one and i can't afford it. i have only just started eating peanut butter, really, thinking of it as one-of-those-things-you-only-want-once-a-year, but that 'once' topically encompassing quite a spell.

also, you should consult wallace and gromit films for your toast-mainline innovations. i definitely think the toaster should eject it somewhere convenient, even if you have to side-mount your toaster on a wall. i like springy toasters. it marginally reduces the amount of time i spend retrieving things/hot cross buns from the toaster with a wild, mashing knife action, which is surely the way i will die.

i was put of by sootyzilla's cat warning. although i'm pretty certain few cats like marmite.

this thread reminds me of my sister's boyfriend who goes to sleep with a thermos of tea next to him so he can have a cup the very moment he wakes up.

i'd be interested to know if anyone actually *likes* the unsalted peanut butter you can get in health food shops. cos i don't think it's as tasty.
I have a health food shop peanut butter. It has no sugar but it does have a bit of salt. I love it.

oh yes, no sugar is the way to go. who needs it? peanuts are sweet as a nut, even if they are actually not nuts but beans. go figure.

yeah, i was thinking this last night as i smooshed my face into my pillow, as is my wont. how horrible it would be to sleep in a puddle of marmite.

i wouldn't think they do, although i have never actually attempted to feed marmite to a cat.

what would happen is you'd wake up with the marmite still on your face, and the butter gone. and you'd have dreamt about snogging.

Ah, you bring me nicely to a problem with the toast machine I was thinking about while out on the town today... what if the bread for the toast turns mouldy or (and this is almost inevitable) stale while sitting in the toaster overnight.
