Anyone fancy a pint?
Good grief.

I used to go to the Wetherspoons in Woodseats for breakfast on Saturday mornings sometimes, when I lived over the other side of Sheffield. It was scary. You'd get there at 11 and there'd already be these broken old geezers with a pint and a double whisky.

My post about the Compton Arms is up on the blog, by the way, for those of you. It's already the top Google search result for "compton arms george orwell"!

I'm an utterly gormless and lifeless loser independently of being dole scum.

I noticed there was no mention of Marianthi luring innocentpopkids into London Dog Diarrhoea.

Oh, I didn't want to do that. I thought I might appear like some kind of fucking groupie

"I WAS THERE! I KNOW PETE GREEN! I'M TOTALLY MORE BLOGGABLE THAN THE REST OF YOU SCUM!"

Obviously, I AM that person, but I expect people here to know that already, I'm trying to limit my negative impact on the internet, one URL at a time.

Yes it does. You could combine a visit with a trip to the Eight Jolly Brewers. There's a funny pub. I do like it though.

At Get to the pub.com this week I want to get a discussion going in the comments about towns and cities that are especially good and bad for pubs. If you've got anything to say, please get along and shout up! Ta.

Thanks Dan! I'm just reading it now!

Oooh, it's my mum's graduation in York later this year. I must visit some of these pubs while I'm there. After the ceremony will probably be best.

Heee, there's always a massive spike in the stats for my blog when I post something about it on here. Nearly 100 page views the other day! Thanks all. x

So, Burton-on-Trent. Anywhere good that's very slightly off the main drag between the station and the football? I think we're starting off at the Devonshire Arms and having some lunch in there. But I want to try some other places and hopefully avoid most other Grimsby fans.

If you're at the Devonshire, you really have to go to the Coopers if it's open. It's about 10 yards away and is quite simply brilliant. If you don't like it, I'll eat my Burton Albion hat.

Also you could try the Cottage, though there could be a few Albion fans in. It's not a rough area exactly, but it's certainly down to earth. A funny pub, but a good pub and it serves beers from the Cottage Brewery, which are good. There's a pub called the Great Northern, which I've never been to, but suspect is a seriously fantastic place. A gem to be discovered. Again, it'll be Albiontastic, being 2 minutes from the ground. And busy, presumably. I'll come and speak East Midlands for you at the bar, if you like, duck.

A is the Coopers at 43 Cross Street
B is the Devonshire at 86 Station Street
C is the Old Cottage Tavern at 36 Byrkeley Street
D is the Great Northern on Wetmore Road.

Cheers Dan. Should be enough to be going on with.

Looking at the Burton Bridge Brewery website, I think the one I went in last time I was there was the Alfred. Nice pub.

If I manage to neck a pint of Burton Bridge Porter tomorrow, relegation will seem a mere trifle.
