Haha. I love their motto ... "Everything Should Taste Like Bacon".

PS. It's even better than that ... Baconnaise is certified Kosher

Salad cream!

At the weekend I took a notion to make salad mix sarnies. My mum used to make these for us when we were little. You dice some tomatoes, cucumber and cheddar cheese really small, mash up a hard-boiled egg, slice some lettuce and stir it all up with salad cream (if you're feeling rakish you could always slice in a spring onion as well). I didn't have any salad cream, so I went out to buy some specially. The sandwiches were ace. And I've been having salad cream on my salad all week since, instead of mayonnaise or balsamic and olive oil or any of that modern frippery. Salad cream. It's bloody great.

Salad cream is one of those things I've never tasted, and probably never will. The very smell of it reminds of Sunday afternoons in the mid-80s.

Mind you, I didn't have coleslaw until about a year ago.

Hmm. Thanks for the tip. The Chip Trial is the acid test, so to speak, eh?

I still won't have coleslaw. It upsets me.

I wouldn't eat until about a year ago for pretty much he same reason. Then I realised it contains vinegar and I love vinegar so much that the chance to have something vinegar based on my sandwiches overrode my dislike of it and I now have it almost every day!

Not sure about having it on chips though. Maybe if there's not vinegar around...

I'm still holding out against coleslaw, though. Maybe if it was made with salad cream instead of mayonaise I might give it a chance...

Vinegar!

Weeeeellll....no I don't think so. Salad cream is in a league of its own - not as solid, more runny. Less reliance on petrochemicals in its manufacture, going by the taste. And heavier on the vinegar/ sharp side. Goes well on a Sunday dinner as well.

The baconnaise folks also make bacon salt.Which is amazing. And bacon lip balm. Which I imagine is less so.

Did you try salad cream Sam? I had a cheese and coleslaw sandwich the other day. I couldn't really taste the coleslaw much but I wasn't sick so I'm going to try it in a less hidden format at some point. We did have some in the fridge but it was about a week out of date which wouldn't normally stop me from eating something but as it was something I was suspicious of in the first place I couldn't...

I'm afraid I didn't. Sorry. I will though!

I'm a bit funny about things like coleslaw in bread, for it can bring on Wet Bread Syndrome (WBS). See also cucumber. So that was quite a brave maiden coleslaw move from you there.

Tonieee: if you've got problems with coleslaws, try Zovirax.

Happy to help!

Not that brave. There were no decent veggie sandwiches so I thought if I'm going to have a crap sandwich anyway I might as well give coleslaw a try.

Is that like a sauce you add to it to make it nicer?

Coleslaw+peanut butter= sandwich heaven

You can tell if it's gone off because the surface of the coleslaw gets pock-marked with little bubbles and you can hear it fizzing if you listen hard.
Or maybe I should be a bit more rigorous in clearing out my fridge...
