home made salad dressing

Post by nanski » Sun Sep 27, 2009 11:58

I'm all for olive oil and balsamic vinegar with a bit of ground pepper, but i live in Japan, so I tried this (Mark Bittman recipe):

1/4 cup "neutral" oil (I used corn)
1/4 cup rice vinegar
3 tbsp white or yellow miso
1 tbsp sesame oil
about an inch of ginger, chopped
1 large carrot (i might go for less next time)

stick it all in a food processor and mash it all up (mine only has 2 settings).

voila.

yummy sesame miso dressing.

i put this is on an incredibly simple salad of romaine lettuce and shiso leaf. (if you've never had shiso leaf, i hope you get the chance to try it some time, because it has a really great flavor). some cherry tomatoes would have been perfect, too, but i forgot them.

I have never made salad dressing. Just yesterday I was watching that really annoying advert where that kid goes 'I'll help you make the salad dressing' and then chucks it all over himself immediately and then that woman breaks into their house to give them washing powder or something and I thought 'who makes their own salad dressing?'

Well now I know.
