Kitchen fail

Post by humblebee » Tue Dec 03, 2013 12:26 pm

I thought we had one of these threads already, but maybe not.

I can never quite get pasties right.

Just now I thought I'd use up some left-over pastry, so I rolled it out and put some soymince, potato, onion and swede in. Veggie cornish pasty. For once I didn't roll it too thin or overfill it, so when it was ready to go in, it actually looked half decent.

Ten minutes later I'm wondering how it's cooked so quickly. It's burnt on the top and can't possibly be cooked inside.

Yeah, turns out I tried to grill it instead of bake it.

Aww! Heh, that reminds me of when I saw an American recipe a bit ago which said I should be 'broiling' something and instead of looking it up, I thought "Ooh, portmanteau! Boiling and grilling, right?"

Wrong.

I mean which complete dick tries cleaning out a glass blender after blending piping hot soup straight away with ice cold water? Which dick would even do that.

Hello, Amazon. Have £50 of my hard earned money again. Gah.

We used to have a microwave at work for melting lab stuff like agar. It took a while to work out why some people's bottles would catch fire and others' wouldn't. Turns out some people didn't understand the difference between 'microwave' and 'dual cook with grill'. Ahem.
