Cheers everyone. It'll be strange being back in the big city, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing all the films and music I want to! Saying that - there is a time I'd have no sadness about leaving here, but that's certainly not true now, especially after the fun-packed sunshine weekend I just had. Got to remember they're not all like that though and it might actually be snowing this weekend!
Off to flat-hunt. Going to live on my own for the first time ever.

It's funny to hear people refer to Glasgow as 'the big city'. It feels really small to me, which is why I like it so much.

What areas are you looking at, flat-wise?

I'm starting off fairly picky and seeing where that gets me. Can always widen my search if I have to later on. I'd ideally like to be within about a 15-30 min walking distance of work so am looking at West End/Partickish and Ibrox/Paisley Road Westish areas. 1 bedroom, fully-furnished and reasonably nice is about what I'm after and available from mid May.
Tip-offs/advice greatly appreciated.

I'd say Partick will be markedly better than Ibrox but pricier. I stay really close to Ibrox so if you need any advice on that part of town give me a shout.

Pollokshields is pretty near to the BBC if you go via Shields Road rather than into the city centre and out west again. 10 minute bike ride.

It's on my list! If you know of anything good then let me know. There seems to be a lot of places going on your street. What's wrong with it?!

Look at me keeping the Glasgow thread alive already! I may make HMHB this Saturday, but I have a wedding in Paisley on Friday night and a full day of flat-hunting after that, so let's wait and see shall we!

It would be good to get this thread going again, wouldn't it? Well, I say 'again'...

The club on Saturday should be a good 'un. We've got two guest DJs on - Linda and Kev from the Manchester indiepop night Cherry Coloured Pop.

i only just saw this! there's absolutely nothing wrong with my street, as you well know! i imagine there might be a fair few places which, in traditional tenement style, haven't been done up since the 70s. also, it really depends which end of the street you're at - our end is lovely, it seems to get progressively less lovely as you go towards the other end. plus if you lived here you would have regular access to star!

I see Martha Reeves and the Vandellas are playing The Arches on 18th July. I might've gone to that but it's fucking £26.50.

The obvious answer is that we all just listen from outside. Dancing in the Street. I'm sorry. She'd have to approve though!

Glasgows! Where do you look for job vacancies? I pretty much only check s1jobs.com and The Herald on a Friday but neither are yielding much of interest.

Probably moving down on Friday now. Got a flat on Buccleuch Street - really near Cowcaddens underground and above The Wee Curry Shop. Think my first gig is Over The Wall at Oran Mor on the 27th. Anyone else going?

I haven't heard about that, and the Oran Mor/Ticketweb sites aren't yielding much. What is it?

Anyone going to see Dum Dum Girls tomorrow night at Stereo?

s1jobs is really dire, isn't it? I think the s must stand for shit. it's all full of ads for call centres, recruitment consultants and business analysts, whatever they are. there's not much else.

Nepotism (or networking as they call it nowadays) is the most effective way to get a job, but that's not very useful advice.
