I just had my dinner in a pub around the corner and it cost TWO POUNDS. Thank you, Manchester.

I'm on Chorlton Street, mate. It was the Waldorf. It could do with putting the heating on, but the food was alright for two quid!

It's never gonna win Pub of the Year, or nuffink. But you can't really grumble.

Mind you, they did charge me a quid a pop for using my card to pay for drinks. Swings and roundabouts.

(I don't mean that have a children's play area).

I only DJ Smile ever so occasionally. Andy Woods tends to do it every week just about.

It's probably a bit different to 5 or 6 years ago, certainly more hipster electro indie feel to it all now, but Andy still does a decent set IMO so worth checking out. But as a place, the Garter is pretty much how you left it the last time, if I go in as a punter these days I tend to just sit downstairs all night and head up when I'm shitfaced for a dance or two. The cricket season starts that weekend so I'll be missing Smile unfortunately, as I'd come out and meet you if there wasn't anything on.

Alternatively, if it's more of a twee, indiepop kind of vibe, Underacheivers Please Try Harder is probably the best bet. Its on at Gullivers on Oldham Street, possibly fortnightly.

i played Gullivers the other week and it was a decent venue.

the room's really good! not sure how well run it is though, and the beer was all a bit shit (certainly in the band room)

otherwise, all i know about it is The Fall apparently rehearse in there

used to be a shithole but, as with most pubs just about touching the 'trendy' Northern Quarter it's been taken over and trying to attract likeminded clientele.

Have to say I've not been in since it were a shithole, but a lot of club nights and gigs have been put on there in recent months. It's probably a bit like The Star and Garter in all honesty.

Hi Manchester!

Ace Bushy Striptease and Falling & Laughing are putting on a hastily arranged free show at Ducie Bridge tonight, thursday october 27th.

It would be pretty great if any of you could come, we only sorted this gig today after having another one in Wakefield cancelled at the last minute.

Don't suppose there's anything happening tomorrow night, is there? I'm overnight for work, and will be sitting in the Britannia bar otherwise...

Yuppo! Being super-greedy I am going to tonight's gig before hosting tomorrow's Sheffield one. Just need to answer the 'pre- or post-rush hour driving?' conundrum.
