The record shop was Backtracks. It used to be in a very damp basement in Cank Street and probably moved to the arcade in the early 90s? Well Gosh (now on the High Street - sells a lot of 'designer'/surfer stuff) was a 2nd hand clothes shop and The Wardrobe (now in Royal Arcade) also used to be in there. In addition to the shops Mark's already mentioned, there were a few 'boutique'-type clothes shops (more alternative than designer though) and the Irish shoe shop, which was on the ground floor and stayed open for a while after the upper floors closed down. There was also a very cool hat shop (I can't remember the name of the girl who ran it, but she was lovely and used to make me bespoke hats to fit my stupidly small head).

I haven't been yet, but I'm not entirely sure that the new re-vamped version is really going for the same clientele!

There was a place in there that was selling one of those mod/futurisitc globe tellies that I coveted for yonks and yonks. It probably didn't even work.

I used to go to Sneakers Records on the 2nd floor a lot from 1989-1992, they did great hip-hop stuff, loads of imports. Magical shop that way. One of the guys behind the counter was local drums and basses legend DJ SS. Well Gosh on the top floor was where I got my first Pop cords. Used to go for a cheese and mushroom toast in the cafe place next to it that you could walk through into.

The lift never aroused confidence and smelt of piss.

Also I spent £23 on a haircut at STAG Hairdressers on the ground floor in 1997, it was so shit I had my first number two straight afterwards.

This photo was doing the online rounds yesterday. Coincidentally I walked past the place yesterday and it's still the same (including the overhanging sign) from the outside, and I knew conversion of the interior had finally been given the go-ahead, but...

That's a sad photo. Some of the best nights in there. A young Hibbett playing in The Council springs to mind. And an absolutely thrilling, packed Prolapse show

Very sad. But the toilets have never looked more hygienic.

Devastating.

Saw the Hidden Cameras at the Charlotte in about 2003. One of the best gigs ever. Boyracer back in '92 or '93 as well. Wonderful venue.

Leicesters, next week I'm taking a day off to go see this poetry thing in your lovely city. If anyone's around and fancies a drink at some point, give me a shout. x

Anyone know who's doing that one? It's not me, I'll be just back from holiday, and I don't think it's anyone I know.

Because people I know are starting to ask... would there be any interest in my doing something round here the night before the Nottingham alldayer (October 3rd)?

We've an Anorak Nottingham gig the night before the alldayer, featuring Tyrannosaurus Dead and others:

Oh, hadn't seen that - yeah, not worth going up against that.

(Did that sound a bit passive-aggressive? Wasn't meant to)

Might as well stick in here that due to the early Easter (and thus early Wales Goes Pop!), Indiepop Alldayer V has moved back a few calendar weeks to April 9th-10th 2016. Trying to get an STN Presents... show booked for before the end of the year but don't hold your breath.

Apparently the Tuts are playing an American retro diner on Silver Street that I've never heard of tomorrow night.

The Facebook event says "Head to Jumpin' Jacks Diner, then we'll show you the way to the show." Mysterious.

I'm coming over for this.

And while this is here, keep 11th March 2017 free for Alldayer VI. Will start announcing more around the start of November.
