Seattle Area Popkids

Post by for_evergreen » Sat Dec 13, 2008 9:04 pm

Hey everybody :)

I moved here to the Seattle area more than a year ago now, and being a huge fan of K and knowing what a fruitful music scene the state as a whole has, I'm sort of bummed out I haven't really discovered where or when the twee/indiepop get together and rock out. I've seen a few scattered festivals here and there but I was wondering if there's a somewhat more frequent club night or something. Let me know if you're out there!!

I'd be curious to know as well. Doesn't seem to be much of that kind of thing in Portland either.

Ah, this topic hasn't been talked about for a while. But now I'm reading it.

Olympia has just set up the Olympia All Ages Project, which is really cool if you're under 21. (http://www.olympiaallages.com) There's not that much indie pop, but every now and then some cool stuff goes on. Calvin Johnson is playing on June 1. The Besties played in February, I think?

What-The-Heck-Fest (http://www.whattheheckfest.com/) is coming up in July too. There are some really cool bands playing this year. The Crabs played last year and I missed it and I'm pretty upset (still) about that.

Three Imaginary Girls (http://threeimaginarygirls.com/) is pretty good for getting info too.

^Can't really answer your question as I haven't been too proactive trying to find anoraks in Seattle, however I'd like to chime in that I am from Vancouver, BC. A club named the waldorf has recently started up a C86 night every week and I'd like to go see what it's about, however having to start work at 6am prevents me from doing so

I realize that this is an old thread, but I'm interested in this topic as well. From around the 3rd to 23rd of May I'm planning to conduct ethnomusicological fieldwork for a class, studying indie pop of the pacific northwest. I'm surprised how hard it is to find shows. Any advice would be welcome!

I guess that sounded a little severe. I'd also just like to meet other twee-lovers and go to more shows for fun and whatnot.

I'm going to be in Seattle and Portland early August. As usual, I write in here to get ideas about what to do. I have a nice list now, but any suggestion is always welcome. In Portland I plan to attend the zine fest too. If there's anybody who is up for a drink or anything, let me know as well.

If you stop in Olympia on your way from Portland to Seattle I'd be happy to meet up and grab a beer or something with you!
