on one of my link following jaunts across the information super-interweb i came across Plastilina records. Indiepop in Peru, who knew such a thing existed?

Most South American countries have a couple of decent indiepop bands. Resplandor -I think they were on a Shelflife compilation- is/was a nice shoegaze-y band from Lima.

But, as with most scenes, it's just a few people doing lots of things. One of the people behind Plastilina is the aforementioned Roque.

(Sadly, Mira el Pendulo hasn't been working for some time now.)

We have written about South American indie pop on indie mp3. Best I have found is Luisa Mandou Um Beijo from Brazil and Uruguay's Amelia.

Both have free albums for download at those links. The former is indie pop with trumpets per Fanfarlo with the latter heading for guitar jangle pop. Both worth a download and a listen.

Yay! Cool to see Plastilina mentioned here. Seems there is so much to answer here!

- I was the one behind Mira el Péndulo (myspace.com/elpendulo) but the website was hacked (by some unknown nasty people) and I haven't had the time or the excitement to start it again from scratch. I do have backups, but setting up a new database seems like a true feat for me. I'd like to start a blog again someday... right now it might be nice just to contribute as I'm pretty pretty busy on other indiepop related stuff and my job.

- Ah, Beef... yeah, they are still great but they are Spanish hehe. They are not longer on Elefant though... jeez... Elefant let so many bands go during the last two years! Their new stuff sounds very much like Sr. Chinarro, if you know what i mean, so good!

- There is a good amount of bands from South America. Not very popular anywhere else aside from maybe Pale Sunday who were in Matinee and are such nice friends, Postal Blue who were on Shelflife and Entre Rios on Elefant. As far as I know Pale Sunday is the only one still (planning) making music. I may have news on this soon. I had a talk with Adriano from Postal Blue and he said the band is pretty much over, that he will be recording by himself... and Entre Rios' Isol their singer went to be part of Alsace Lorraine in NY. Im not very sure if they are still together... they added another girl instead of Isol after the release of Onda (2005) but they've been so silent that I think they just have called it quits. The story tells that Isol left the band after a song of Entre Rios appeared on a beer commercial... she didn't want the band to be a "commercial/mainstream" band but the two other guys did.. hmm

- Some other favourite bands are SodaCaffé (which I signed to Plastilina but believe me I'm not biased here!), Radio de Outono (just check this vide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2Js12YESl8) and Lu (listen to Los Poderes de Sandra: http://www.myspace.com/ludoesntexist)... and some old favourites Suarez, Voltura and of course Bristol. But of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

- And as far as Plastilina goes, we've just released a retrospective album from Second-Hand Furniture! It includes a couple of unreleased songs as well. On March there will be a release from Stars in Coma. And then there are going to be releases by Hari and Aino (album), Indurain(EP), The Bollweevils (retrospective) and The Blue Train (retrospective) for the first half of the year if everything goes as planned! Hard to plan for an indiepop label though!

Did I hear my name?
To clear what Roque said (which was true at the time), Postal Blue is currently in a hiatus, but I refuse to give up, so I'm still making music all by myself. I have a bunch of tunes that I'm planning to release one way or another.
You can check a bunch of them out in my blog where I'm slowly unloading these songs that I've accumulated over the past few years. It's at http://weathersensitive.wordpress.com.
I'm also releasing a single on Roque's Cloudberry Records next May 1st.

New Postal Blue single out now on Cloudberry Records.
There are still copies of our Road to Happiness CD-EP here.
