This is going to sound strange on the surface to those of you that know me.

However, I've never stayed in a Stockholm hotel, and need to suggest some to people. Can anyone suggest any which are lovely? The more the better.

The backpackers hostel in Stockholm is nicer than a lot of London hotels.

we stayed at the nordic light hotel, and it was nice but i thought it was overpriced for what you actually get.

hotel j looks kind of intriguing. i'm still looking around for hotels too. i'll let you know if i come across any decent looking ones!

whoa, hotel j! that's in my suburb. it's super swanky, i had a posh lunch there once in their restaurant. it's pretty and all but it IS quite far from actual stockholm. you have to get the bus for about 20 minutes or a taxi to get to actual stockholm.

Going to sexiful Stockholm in two weeks ^__^ and of course I pick the time when there are no bands or anything playing. damnit!

But still, a beautiful city, perfect for many a photo opportunity :-)

How long are you there for? I arrive on the 9th this time. Astrid'll be there for some time before that. There's suburban kids at debaser on the 10th.

Hope you had a fantastic time out there.

I'm on my way now and all excited and happy - I'm running on that rather than my five hours sleep, which were the result of procrastinating at impressive length before managing to start packing and cleaning, as is traditional.

Somewhere approaching Stansted, I find myself wondering if the access-card system has become commonplace in Stockholm yet and if I can buy one of those things rather than a 7-day pass this time. Anyone know? I may check out the sl.se website.

Yeah, Sweden!

Hej hej!

I'm so jealous because I want to be back in Sweden :(

I saw the access-card system thingy in Stockholm but I was too scared to try it out, so I just stuck with the 7 Day pass thing which I thought was pretty good value for money. I think there are Stockholm Cards too that you can buy which get you on all transport and get you into museums and things for free too. Not sure how much those are though.

Hope the weather stays good for you. It was just splendid when I was there. Sun every day and not one drop of rain or any clouds for that matter :-)

So far so good... apparently so far you can only buy the access card for a long period... I want to use it more like an Oyster card. Pay an amount on it and have it run down in the most economical way according to my usage (of course what I may be saying here is that I misunderstand Oyster cards, but I've used them for the sum total of three days since introduction, so fair enough really... Hull paragon is fine enough, but the city could do with an integrated transport system like that.)

Anyone going to Pop Dakar at Stockholm University tomorrow? Not heard of much of the line-up but lots of it sounds good from a listen on Spotify.

sweden thread! i just thought i'd let people know that the nordic lights hotel and the nordic sea hotel are both doing a 3 nights for the price of 2 promotion. we just booked 3 nights in a standard room at nordic lights for 2,860 SEK (or about £77 a night) we stayed at the same hotel the year before last and it was a lot more expensive than that so it's a really good deal if you're going for a long weekend or whatever. the hotel is nice (although at the time i thought it was overpriced for what you get, but in this case i'd say it's good value for money) and the location is pretty central and right near the arlanda express stop. both hotels are kind of beside each other.

oooh, thank you for that tip, i will tell people who are still looking for hotels about this!

also, jonny and i need to find a hotel for us to live in the night before the wedding and the wedding night. perhaps story hotel but i don't like 'trendy' as much as classic and luxurious.

actually... hotel rival which is quite close to the venue would be great.

it's about 795 sek for one night per person, with breakfast included. the design is great, and the bar bit is one of my favourite places to go for cocktails. also it's owned by one of the dudes from abba, haha! looks pretty neat!
