Gosh!*) this thread has 200 views already, but not a single reply. i think i need to change that a bit.
Today, the sun came out for a while. After a whole week of grey skies and rain. If something exciting is about to happen in the city, I'll eventually post that in here.

yup.

*)Gosh! like in Hello, I'm your MP. Actually no, I'm your candidate. Gosh!

Where is the best Currywurst?
As wrong as it was to do,

I'm pretty sure Currywurst is all we ate for the whole week we were in Berlin last year.
We even tried to recreate it back in England but it isn't quite the same...

me and a friend went to an ok northern soul disco in a park near Friedrichschain this spring, i think it was in Friedrichschain Volkspark. Soul Explosion was the name of the club, I think.

in consultation with westgatest & a small panel of europeans, it was decided that living in berlin: great, talking about wanting to live in berlin: clichéd.

^^^ what schlump said ^^^

For all ye folks hanging out in Glasgow's fine 78 bar planning to go:

cliché = all people here love Nick Cave.
There seems to be some disinformation around, as the cliché of Berlin is filled with an image of West Berlin in the early 80s.
The city has radically changed. More than 30% of its former habitants have gone after 1989. More than 30% of its current residents have moved here after 1989.

fact = not all people here love Nick Cave, but still - when he's doing a show, he needs a large venue and sells out for sure.

google images and stringent library blocking is making it hard for me to find an image of nick in his wenders film, but, seeing nick cave in berlin has to feel like that. i'd even slouch off and hang around at the bar in hope of getting hit on.

Image
is the best I can find. Wings of desire is probably beyond cliche now, it must be over 20 years old - is it not due a whole-hearted revival in Berlin, or is it too closely-tied to something that will never come back?

I'd love to spend more time in Berlin, I've only been twice: once I was ecstatically in love, it was the hottest summer ever (I think nearly 40deg), I got a scar on my arm from falling off a bike, we watched films through the fence in Friedrichschain Volkspark. I loved the city. The second time was different: it was winter, bitterly cold and my heart was broken. I remember firecrackers on new year's eve.

Yeah, I'd like to go and see the city through different eyes.

I tried to watch "Wings of Desire" only once. On DVD.
I switched it off after about 20 mins or so cause I was utterly bored. Maybe I should give it another go.

hmmm....

visiting Berlin in winter is generally never a good idea.

Hey Berliners!
I am going to be there from 13th - 14th September. Anything exciting happening to go and see and do? I have to work on a fair on Saturday till 6 pm or so. But after that I am looking for some place to go out and also to do something exciting on Sunday.
I have only been to Berlin once and done all the touristy things but don't really know much else of Berlin.
Am happy about any ideas!

The European Heritage Days are on in Berlin during that particular weekend. Justine and me are going to see the old area of the GDR Broadcasting Area. They still have a very unique and world-class recording studio in there (Portishead played a secret show in there to promote their 3rd album).

We also like to have a look on the Futuro House, which is near that area.

Usually the whole area is locked up, but on this particular weekend you can do guided tours. I think it's free of charge, but you have to register to take part.
