Barcelona

Post by Toniponi » Fri Jun 28, 2013 1:56 pm

Hey there! I'm Antoni, I'm actually from Mallorca but I live in Barcelona. I open this post in order to join the Anorak/twee/pop community of the city and welcome visitors to the city . I'll tell you the indiepop bands around that I recommend the most or that I know :

-Son Bou, very good c86 http://sonbou.bandcamp.com/track/un-lugar .
-We have a more JMC influenced band called Univers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOFlpRwD3D8
-A girl band called Las Desnortadas http://lasdesnortadas.bandcamp.com/albu ... con-cuello
-An 80s synth pop band called El Último Vecino http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dI6ZI_Z3nmY
-A strange pop band called Tirana http://hijauhusb.bandcamp.com/track/kurt
-A band from Elefant Records that I love called Papa Topo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw2PR2Vhhic
-A twee/c86 band in which I play called Jessica & the Fletchers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTs9-mdUiDs
-A softpop band, Fred i Son http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeCKf2dafWg
-Evripidis & his Tragedies, a 60s pop influneced band, delicate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR4uQCdxWuY
-Ultratomba is a dark noisy band with a pop touch http://ultratomba.bandcamp.com/album/5

And this is mainly the pop sound of the city. I hope you enjoy the bands and in this topic we can discus other bands from Barcelona, host people who come to the city or arrange pop meetings :)

i'll be visiting barcelona for xmas and madrid for new year. or the other way round, i forget.

years since i was last in either city, and i've lost the lists i made, so any information about new and/or secondhand record shops (indiepop, indie, diy/post-punk) would be much appreciated!

Just what came to my mind, but I'll think a bit more! :
http://www.ultralocalrecords.com -> Check this one, very interesting, full of local records! New bands, local seals, small shop but with a very good ambient, they play shows there too.(L4 Yellow Line, Llacuna stop, just near the subway stop)

http://www.yelp.es/biz/discos-paradiso-barcelona - This one it's a living myth, you may find some post punk specially but there's a looooot of electronic stuff (Universitats L1 red line, need to walk 5-10m)

http://www.wah-wahsupersonic.com/html/shop.html - I like this shop a lot, it's a bit expensive but you'll find very interesting records from sunshine pop to indiepop in very good conditions! (L2 Purple Line, Sant Antoni , need to walk 5 minutes from the stop but it's an interesting trip, the shop it's in Riera Baixa, in the same street there's Edison Records, where you WON'T find indie stuff but a lot of good records and it's quite cheap!) I bought for a friend Margo Guryan's "Take a Picture" in a very good state.

http://www.revolverrecords.es -> Good selection from punk rock to indie pop. I bought the Brilliant Corners compilation there some weeks ago and they have some T-Shirts too. I bought some time ago a Belle & Sebastian one (L3 Green Line, Catalunya or L1 Red Line, Universitats. It's in Tallers Street, an interesting ambient, this street goes from Catalunya to Universitats, it's closer to Catalunya anyway but in the street are other record shops)

that's really helpful. i'll check out all those.

i have definitely wandered up and down tallers a bunch of times. don't remember finding anything particularly interesting but it's great for browsing.

the best shop i found last time was in that part of town, somewhere near the museum of contemporary art, but it doesn't seem to be on google maps and nothing on google images looks familiar, so it has probably shut down since then (2005, cos i remember buying this 7" there).

thanks!

many thanks for the recommendation of ultra local, that shop was great and i would never have found it myself. stupidly i had not read your list of recommended bands above, but managed amongst many other things (including a free tote bag) to end up with a 12" and 7" by univers, who i then found you had mentioned. wish i'd bought the son bou 7".

wah wah (great selection, unfriendly owner) i had been to before. same with revolver. based on my old map, the mystery shop i mentioned above was on c/ doctor dou.

paradiso i had not been to before. it felt like maybe the best record store i visited but i didn't actually buy anything there.

the dude in ultra local told me about a punk/indie shop called dead moon (c/ de la lluna 10) which only opened three weeks ago. nice little place.

thanks again!

I'm glad you had a good time!! Dead Moon is sooo new! They've opened just near the new location of the comic shop Fat Bottom, cool too! Son Bou 7" it's amazing and I'm sure they're going to release more stuff!

It's true that Ultra Local it's a bit hard to find but I'm glad you did and I hope you had a great time in Barcelona! Next time you visit , just send me an Anorak message and I'll manage to get you to any indiepop show or anything like that. Happy new year.
