summer in winter...

Post by stolenwine » Tue Sep 02, 2008 11:08 pm

...or even in autumn. mr.stolenwine and i want to go somewhere nice and warm and sunny in september/october. i'm leaning towards sicily or sardinia (i think it's pretty warm there then, right?). where else is warm and sunny in the autumn?
tell me how good it is / to wake from a bad dream / and have someone there and I will tell you / how butterfly wings stay dry in the rain

I spent some very sunny October days on the Greek Kos Island once, near the Turkish coast. Kos in summer is a party hell, but in October it was nice and quiet.

I'm sure there are much nicer places to go to, but the sun was surely still shining there.

I've always thought somewhere like Malaga would be really nice at that time of year. Still warm but not so hot that you want to kill yourself.

Athens. Go to Athens. It's lovely around that time of the year. (Athens, Greece, that is, not Athens, Georgia. I wouldn't go to Georgia right now anyway.)

I fucking LOVE Cambodia! Where abouts are you going? Phnom Penh? Siem Reap? Kampot? Mondolkiri? Ratanakiri? Kratie? Battambang?

Oooh, Cambodia!

Not in siem reap, I never went there.

In Phnom Penh I'd say the sunset over Boeng Kak with a beer/special lemonade/fruit smoothie is super-beautiful. That said, I heard the lake is being filled in (I know the government was trying to evict people when I was there) so maybe it's a building site now?

Wat Phnom is nice to walk around but people try to charge you to actually walk up (and that probably isn't worth it), for me seeing monkey running round and sometimes the elephant (I forgot her name but there's only one doing the touristy stuff, poor thing) and families hanging out was enough for me.

My favourite thing to do in Phnom Penh was just ride around, there's some mad old stat buildings that never got rebuilt that are PERFECT for urban exploration, other than that it's just the best way to get around the city. Avoid Monivong/Mao Tse Tung areas and the streets are really not too dangrous for cyclists. Also, it keeps motodops/tuk-tuk drivers/anyone else from hassling you.

Everyone says the view from the top of The FCCC on Sisowath Quay is the best in the city, I wasn't amazed but I'm generally a misery, so maybe give it a try. Sisowath is another place that Khmer families often hang out playing, having picnics etc.

If you had more time I'd say go to Kampot and maybe Koh Kong, the ride to Koh Kong is incredible and I don't know what it is about Kampot but I just had to go back there a second time. Also, Mondolkiri 'The wild east' of Cambodia has a very special place in my heart.

DAAAAAAAMMMMMMN I wanna go :'-(
