B&Bs, hotels and other places to stay

Post by humblebee » Mon Feb 04, 2008 16:25

Anyone know a good hotel or B&B around the Brighton area?

Me and mrs humblebee are going to a wedding at Shoreham airport and we'd like to have a look round Brighton and walk round the coast and the countryside round there while we're in the area. We might be going by public transport so somewhere that's handy for the trains and stuff would be nice.

Has anyone ever stayed in a hotel in Bruges? Or Brussels? Any recommendations?

I'm after something relatively cheap that doesn't double up as a bordello.

Oh, I have but it was absolutely ages ago. I'll see if I can find any details, but it was at least five years ago. Or six, now that I think about it.
Helpful as ever.

For what it's worth, the place was really nice and very cheap. As I recall, we had to go to the pub at the end of the street to get the owner to come and let us in when we arrived. Whether that says cheery and down-to-earth or dodgy is up to you. This is Brussels I'm on about, by the way, not Bruges.

A hotel with a pub attached sounds just about perfect.

I stayed at a really nice B&B in Bruges, but the bathroom was not en-suite. Ergg. I also can't think of how in the crap I could ever remember what it was called. It was very close to the train station.

But rent bicycles while you're there. It's the most fun ever.

Chris and I have had good deals on the Hilton by the City2 centre in Brussels, and the Hampshire Hotel near there was also pretty good.

Never been to Bruges!

Cheers, cath.

I reckon we might just stay in Brussels and have a day trip to Bruges.

The Eurostar is great, isn't it? So cheap. And fast.

i love the eurostar. it takes me less time to get from london to my parents' place in brussels than it takes to get to andy's parents' house in stockport, and it's cheaper too. train prices in the UK can be a bit mental.

let me know if you want suggestions on places to visit/eat/drink, sam.

Since Sarah and i haven't had a holiday (that doesn't involve a music festival or one of our bands driving round in a van for a week) for a few years, we've decided to have a little break one weekend soon. My dad's thoughtfully offered to drive us anywhere within 100 miles of Liverpool, and we'd like to go to some sort of nice little town somewhere for a b&b weekend. Any ideas, anyone?

I was thinking somewhere round south Cumbria (maybe as far up as Windermere) or North Wales (as far out as Conwy, perhaps) but other ideas would be most welcome.

You know the sort of town: things to do, pubs to drink in, local beers or puddings or sausages or whatever to try... i'm thinking somewhere a bit like Rye, only up north, like.

Any thoughts would be ace. Towns i've thought of so far include Kirby Lonsdale and Bowness but i'm very open to suggestions right now. Ta!

It might be a bit quieter than you're after, but last year I fell in love with Arnside.

Ooh! My Mum's from Ulverston so i used to go there a bit as a kid! Can't remember anything about it now, but that could well be worth a look! Thanks Pete. We're not really after anything riotous... a couple of nice pubs and some walks would make for a nice little weekend break.

Let me know if you find a good hotel or B&B! We only spent an afternoon there (after camping in Silverdale) but I'd love to go for longer. In fact I am seriously besotted with the whole sort of north end of Morecambe Bay, where north-west Lancashire becomes south-west Cumbria. Can't wait to get back there and check out Grange-over-Sands.

Ravenglass is my favourite place of all, but of course that's quieter than almost everyone is after!

I surely will! I'd sorta like to go to Ulverston actually, but think it'd probably be nicer if we were to go somewhere that we can both explore, as opposed to somewhere i can point stuff out that i used to do when i was wee. No matter how tempting the Laurel & Hardy museum may be.
