This Friday is our annual Belle & Sebastian album special at the Shacklewell Arms. For the last ten years, we've held a B&S album special each October, playing every song from a particular B&S album over the course of the night. This year, it's the turn of "Dear Catastrophe Waitress". Come and dance to every song from the band's Trevor Horn produced pop masterpiece - "I'm A Cuckoo", "Step Into My Office Baby", "Wrapped Up In Books", "If You Find Yourself Caught In Love", "Stay Loose", and more.

Our opening night at The Crypt went brilliantly - a fantastic turn out, a lovely atmosphere, and some wonderful moments on the dancefloor. But that doesn't mean that we're home and dry - now we have to show that the opening night wasn't a fluke, and that we can do this every month. So please come along and make our second night at The Crypt every bit as good as the first.

The venue itself is real gem. A jazz club in the crypt underneath St Giles church on Camberwell Church Street, it's a beautiful, atmospheric, and ever so slightly eccentric space which feels like it could have featured on the second side of "Tigermilk". It's 150 capacity, with a cool dancefloor, lots of interesting nooks and crannies for talking in, and a great private garden for the smokers. Best of all, the layout of the club means that even when it's sold out, there's still plenty of space to dance, chat, and generally hang out.

Photos of our opening night are here - http://www.howdoesitfeel.co.uk/oct32015a.html

Our guest DJs this month are David and Franic of The Wave Pictures, who'll be playing their usual floor-filling mix of indiepop, soul, rock'n'roll, rhythm'n'blues and whatever else takes their fancy. After the November date, The Crypt will decide whether they'd like HDIF to be a regular event. The first Saturday in December is already booked so if we do go monthly at the Crypt it will be from next February onwards.

Usual admission of £4 for members and £6 for non-members. Club will run from 9pm - 2am. Advance tickets here - http://www.wegottickets.com/event/335802

Eeek! Haven't updated this thread in ages. Since the last post we had a fantastic night at the Montague Arms in Peckham and we're hoping for more there soon.

In the meantime, here's the next HDIF at the Shacklewell Arms.

Friday February 19th, 11pm-3am, The Shacklewell Arms, Dalston

Morrissey special.

We've held countless Smiths specials over the years and a couple of Morrissey album specials, but we've never had a general Moz special - until now! For one night only, we'll be playing a ton of solo Morrissey songs alongside our usual mixture of indie pop and northern soul. From "Suedehead" to "First Of The Gang To Die", from "Speedway" to "Certain People I Know", from "Everyday Is Like Sunday" to "Irish Blood, English Heart".

After a storming night at the start of February, we're very pleased to be back at the Montague Arms for another night of indie pop and northern soul dancing. The night in February was a joyous, chaotic affair - full of friendship and joy, of dancing and singing along, a night that felt like HDIF at its best. Plus The Montague Arms have put up some gorgeous red curtains around the stage, giving the dancefloor a wonderfully David Lynch-esque feel.

Doors will open at the slightly earlier time of 8pm and the bar will serve until 1am, with dancing continuing until 2am. The night will be advertised as running until 1am, but rest assured that dancing will continue after the bar shuts.

Guest DJ Bill Botting (Allo Darlin')

Our 14th birthday party!

We're celebrating our 14th year of indiepop and northern soul dancing by throwing a huge party. We're returning to The Phoenix on Cavendish Square, where we'll be on the third Saturday of the month from now onwards. And our guest DJ is none other than Kevin Rowland of Dexys! Kevin has DJ-ed at HDIF three times and each night was absolutely incredible. As well as playing an immaculate selection of music, spanning from Toots And The Maytals and David Bowie to T Rex and the Stooges, Kevin also sang along with some of the songs, making the night more like an intimate gig than a regular club. The atmosphere at these nights was electric and I can't wait to experience it all over again.

The next HDIF at The Phoenix...

Very welcome return to HDIF for Bob Stanley, of Saint Etienne. Bob's DJ-ed at HDIF several times over the years, from our Queen Is Dead special at the 100 Club to our 10th birthday party at The Phoenix, and each time he's played a fantastic set of indie pop, 60s girl groups and much more. I can't wait to see what he has in store for us this time around!

We're putting on a one-off night at The Phoenix on Thursday June 23rd to coincide with Belle & Sebastian's "If You're Feeling Sinister" gig at the Royal Albert Hall. Go see the show and then come dancing with us afterwards! We'll open at 11pm and close at 3am. I've got tickets to the Sinister gig, so our guest DJ Steve Ellis will open proceedings at 11pm, and then I'll DJ when I get to The Phoenix.

It couldn't be easier to get to The Phoenix from the Albert Hall. Just go to bus stop RL directly outside and catch the number 10 bus, which will take you to Oxford Circus. The Phoenix is a couple of minutes walk away on Cavendish Square.

After two storming nights at the Montague Arms in February and March, we return for our annual Smiths album special. This year it's the turn of "Hatful Of Hollow". We'll be playing every song from the album - all 16 of them! - over the course of the evening.

William, It Was Really Nothing
What Difference Does It Make?
These Things Take Time
This Charming Man
How Soon Is Now?
Handsome Devil
Hand in Glove
Still Ill
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
This Night Has Opened My Eyes
You've Got Everything Now
Accept Yourself
Girl Afraid
Back to the Old House
Reel Around the Fountain
Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want

Phew! Really looking forward to this!

Merry Xmas! 2016 is almost over!

Come help us wave good riddance to this most calamitous of years.

Guest DJ Paul Rains of Allo Darlin' makes a welcome return to HDIF. He last DJ-ed for us on New Year's Eve and played a superb set, so we're very happy to have him back.

We'll also be marking 45 years to the day since the release of "Hunky Dory", David Bowie's masterpiece. It was released on the 17th of December, 1971, and has remained a magical presence in the world ever since. It's the album I've turned to most this year, the album that somehow gave me what I needed most: a sense of friendship, a sense of wonder, a sense that you can make mad leaps of faith and everything will turn out fine, more than fine. You can get Rick Wakeman to play the piano. You can cover a song also recorded by Tiny Tim. You can draw a line in the sand and invite your friends to join you, be a pretty thing driving your mamas and papas insane, no matter who you are or how old you are or anything. You can find life on Mars right here.

And if the homework brings you down
Then we'll throw it on the fire
And take the car downtown

We'll play every song from "Hunky Dory" over the course of the night.

Let's see this stupid year off together.

Fear is in your head
Only in your head
So forget your head
And you'll be free

Welcome return to HDIF for James Hoare of Ultimate Painting and Veronica Falls. We've had some of the best HDIF nights with James and we're really looking forward to having him back.

We'll also be marking 40 years since the release of "Spiral Scratch" by Buzzcocks. The third punk single to be released, the self-financed four track EP is widely regarded to be the birth of DIY indie culture in the UK. Every independent label that followed, from Postcard to Creation, from Sarah to Fortuna Pop, owes a huge debt to this record and the wave of inspriaton it caused. We'll be playing every track from "Spiral Scratch" - all four of them, total running time 10:11 - over the course of the night. Plus a few other Buzzcocks classics if anyone asks for them.

Guest DJ Jyoti Mishra of White Town

20 years ago, Joyti dreamt up a number one hit on his computer in his bedroom in Derby - a fairly common occurance these days, but a real rarity in 1997. That song, "Your Woman", was an instant classic and went on to be a hit all over the world, and has been covered countless times since. Joyti has DJ-ed at HDIF many many times over the years and we're very happy to have him back, and help him celebrate his 20th anniversary of being top of the charts.

Don't forget that you can get the night tube home from HDIF at The Phoenix. Both the Victoria and the Central line, which serve nearby Oxford Circus, run all night.

Debut HDIF appearance for Fergal Kinney of Manchester's popular club night Let's Make This Precious. Established in 2014, LMTP plays a HDIF-friendly mixture of indie, soul, girl groups and post punk, so expect a super danceable set ranging from Orange Juice and Dexys to Nancy Sinatra and Love. Can't wait!

Don't forget that you can get the night tube home from HDIF at The Phoenix. Both the Victoria and the Central line, which serve nearby Oxford Circus, run all night.
