Hibbettfest 2013: 22 June, Dudley

Post by roundbitsofplastic » Wed Jan 16, 2013 14:17

HIBBETTFEST!

I KNOW it's way, way, WAY in the future, but I'm excited, SO THERE.

Here is a Facebook event link thingy.

you all know the drill. Mark Hibbett turns up in my Mum's back garden and we use that as an excuse to eat veggie sausage rolls and drink far, far too much booze.

Bring your own booze, bring your friends, bring your kids, bring your dogs, bring your ferrets, but seriously, BRING BOOZE.

Transport back in to Birmingham city centre will be arranged for about 5pm for anyone who wants it.

Also, Ghost Mice and Winona Forever are playing in Kings Heath that night, and Atta Girl will be DJing afterwards, so you should come along to that with us, too.

See you there!

I'l be there! I might attempt to public transport it over so i can have a drink this year, i've only experienced Hibbettfest dry in the past, imagine having two or so bottled ales, that could surely only increase the enjoyment. No idea if i can get there from the wastelands of Bartley Green but by jove i'll be investigating the possibility! The child shall come, but i look after him better after a few ales anyway.

Ya cor bayt Hibbettfest!

From the city centre you'll want the 126 to Dudley, then the 226 towards Merry Hill. That's the simplest way.

Otherwise train to Cradley, any bus to Merry Hill, then 255 towards Wolverhampton.

There appear to be two separate Hibbettfest threads, I dunno why I did that. But let's concentrate on this one cos the other one has no replies and I will ask a mod to get shut of it.

Woooo, Hibbettfest!

This Saturday! right then, the 002 and the 255 then a 12 minute walk it is! twelve minutes.... is there a pub on the way? a 12 minute walk, i'll be there in45!

**Ray, if I were to foolishly decide I wanted a pint of Bathams on the way would I be better off going to the Fox & Grapes Pensnett or the New Inn at Wordsley? they're both about a mile and a half walk apparently which is nothing really, if im walking for 12 minutes I may as well walk for 50!**

as Ray doesn't appear to have been here over the last few days I thought i'd try and... not answer for him, that's not my place - but give a few words based on my experience over the last few years. There isn't usually a bbq, Ray normally puts on a mightily impressive spread but so as not to be presumptuous i'll be ensuring I've had at least a cob in a pub on the way. apparently the Park Tavern in Kingswinford does a fine range of cobs, along with 6 ales (including Bathams) I might bring a few to add to the buffet (I believe any additions to the buffett are welcomed) or I might end up eating them on the potentially long walk from the pub to Hibbettfest.

so yeah, usually no bbq but a FINE buffet, although i'm not Ray so don't know what he's got in mind this year. For all I know he may in the last two weeks have sacked off the whole vegan thing and gone for a hog roast.

Please DO NOT bring food. Your offers are appreciated but there will be PLENTY of food on offer. Just don't be polite, eat as much as you like cos left overs piss me off.

Go to the Fox and Grapes because a) it's on the way, and b) it's pretty much a down hill walk from there. The New Inn will take you past where you need to get off so it'll take longer to get there and there's one almighty hill between there and Hibbettfest.

There's a pub between the bus stop and Hibbettfest but it's a crappy estate pub.

You could always buy a bottle of Bateman's from the Spar. It's entirely possible that they (or the big office by the stop) actually sell Batham's as well but I can't say for sure.

I was thinking about the Fox & Grapes actually, it's a Bathams pub isn't it. downhill you say, that's the best kind of hill. have you tried this Park Tavern place? it's in the GBG so can't be THAT bad can it?

what time is it kicking off? I have a terrible memory of time related type things.

this time tomorrow i'll either be in or on my way to a pre Hibbettfest pub! imagine that!

I've only been to The Park Tavern once but I'd say its a bit more of a walk than you might fancy. Also: hill.

From F&G go down High St and turn left towards Merry Hill, take 2nd right (Tiled House Lane) follow that and bear left at mini round about (by an offie), follow to the end and turn right on to Bromley, over the bridge and Lapwood Avenue is the 2nd right (bunch of shops inc. Spar), last left on Lapwood is Lydgate Road.
