Wales Goes Pop

Post by a layer of chips » Wed Mar 27, 2013 06:52

I can't find a thread. Is there a thread?

Anyway, is anyone going? We decided last minute to go. See you there, if you're going! Not been to Cardiff for 20 years...

Also, does anyone have any idea of stage times?

They were due to post stage times last night, but said on Facebook last night that they had delayed posting them till tonight.

I'm going on the Friday, haven't been to Cardiff for over 20 years either. Venue looks nice from the website, bit of seating round the edge of the main venue by the looks of it. Not sure whether it's walking distance in this weather from the centre, but looks like it's on a main bus route.

There's a chance I might not be able to make it now.

Should know by tonight.

I'll be there all weekend, and in the same riverside guest house I've been in for the last two Swns which bodes well. Apart from a couple of performers I thought last night that nobody I knew would be there, now it seems there'll be loads.

That was brilliant. What a fantastic venue full of super-friendly people. Highlights for me were Big Wave, Kid Canaveral, Allo Darlin, Joanna Gruesome and the dancing photographer. And going for the most surreal burrito with Sean and Helen. I'll never forget the flush mechanism in that restaurant's toilet or their jugs of confusing margherita.

Please make it all happen again next year.

I had a great time as well, only there on the Friday, but highlights for me Joanna Gruesome and Evans The Death. Venue was great, only thing I'd suggest for next year, and I know it costs money, would be to add a temporary stage in front of the steps in the main hall, as I guess anyone at the back could only have seen the drummer when everyone stood up (wasn't an issue for me being a lanky bloke close to the front).

Loved the atmosphere and the area, had a cracking curry early doors. Also good that it was easily walkable from the centre - we got a taxi on the way and the bloke took us to a business park next to the motorway at first, but would definitely walk it next time.

Praise all round from here too. Wasn't sure when I saw the Gate layout but it worked out so well, aided by lovely people and great sets - the Evans The Death/Joanna Gruesome one-two, Kid Canaveral, Golden Fable, Ides, Bobby McGees, Liz Green and of course Allo Darlin' and their marvellous seeming new songs. Hope it went well enough to make it feasible next Easter.

Only real nitpick: obviously the Tuts and some of JoGru being delayed isn't anyone's fault other than whoever was causing the tailbacks, but given the former's stage time was 3.15 it seemed glaring that the revised schedule wasn't publicised until nearly 4pm, and then in a form that seemed to suggest EtD's set would now be fifteen minutes long (JoGru were listed as starting half an hour after them) and which meant most people had to miss the Middle Ones.
