Dogs!

Post by Mr Bear » Thu Oct 04, 2007 10:40

Dogs are great. They really make me laugh, and get sadly overlooked in favour of cats sometimes (though cats are great too). Are there many dog owners here?

i like dogs too! but i don't own one.

actually, i only like non-scary dogs. my cousin has all these guard dogs and they REALLY scare me.

but in general, i am a fan of dogs. dogs!

my dog likes alec more than me. he came to visit a couple of weeks ago and even though it was the first time they'd met she got really excited every time he walked in the room and when i sat on his lap she barked at me until i got up so that she could sit on his lap. she's a really funny dog, and bizarrely cat-like.

I freaking love dogs, but I'm not home enough to take care of one.

Otherwise, I'd have like twelve of them.

I miss my dog :(

In my crueler moments, I think that I only go back to Surrey so that I can see him, and not my mother. He's a cutiepie, albeit a rather psychotic one. Sigh.

Came home to find Max acting all weird, usually he's very excited to see me, but today he was acting all sheepish.

Turns out he'd been in my room, and he knows he's not supposed to. Been in my bed too, but he said he was sorry, so I forgave him.

I can't own a dog as I'm away too much, so I decided to sponsor one instead. My dog is called Shane and must be really clever because he can write me letters and everything!

Here he is:

personally i think this should be named the shit demanding cat thread. however i have a couple of dogs that float my boat:

portugese water dog!:

these are bloody mint. they swim like a bastard and are all loyal and shit. they cost loads of money, but i think if you replaced all the posing life guard ponces from leisure centres with this thing a) less people would die b) more importantly you could touch a dog and swim ON THE SAME OCCASION. the ones above look particularly like rick james.

black labrador!:
Image

it's a labrador, which everone knows is a fundamentally ace and lovely dog despite it's toilet roll thieving habits. however it looks like '68 comeback elvis. certainly the hippest dog on the market.

this is a shit dog:

what a ponce. he looks like a member of the cooper temple clause (rip)

Black labradors are the best dogs. The best!

Flat-coated retrievers are great too:

If I could have any dog, it'd be a beagle.

We bought a dog in Florida last year. This is how they portrayed her on their website:

Seriously, you would almost not want her anymore.
Almost.

Despite that early trauma, she turned out a cutie.
Here she is on my couch last summer:

My sister got her doggie today. A retired greyhound called Willow. She's just sent me a photo and I squealed when I saw her. She's just so cute. Hee.
Give over.

I saw the dogs episode of 'pushing daisies' last night, where they cross bred a poodle/jack russel/labrador and er... soemthing else.

It had me all over the place.

I want a dog. Particularly one that's crossed from 4 different breeds.

I was never much of an animal lover before.

BUT THEN

I went volunteer dog walking with a friend of mine the other day. Most of the dogs at the shelter were pitbulls so I wasn't planning to walk one myself. But the woman at the shelter came out with two and they were so excited that I couldn't say no. I had a pitbull at first but she was a real monster so I traded with my friend and walked a pitbull/doberman mix. They're so strong and I didn't want to go anywhere where there were people because it didn't look like I could control him and I know how freaked out people get around scary dogs.

Then, horror, the latch on the leash let go and he was free! I nearly peed my pants, but didn't want him to know I was scared. He kind of stopped and looked at me. My friend told me to start walking away and call him back as calmly as I could. He actually came back to me! I was terrified that he was going to take off, turn a corner and maul a small child.

Sweet relief. I gave him a big hug and smelled of dog all the way home.

Now I want to go dog walking all the time. I wish I could adopt him.
Butt.

I would want to get a dog, but they're a bit expensive and I think it may be a little too much with two cats and a dog in a small flat. But if I could get one I would want a pug, because the're so cute. However, I've heard that they're not a very good breed, as they get lots of problems like breathing difficulties and have back problems. It's a shame becasue they're super cute, especially little puglets. Like this one:
(it's so cute I want to die)

(sorry about the massive picture).

Or I could do with a papillon, they're also adorale. I met one last week and it was so so cuddly and friendly. I wanted to totally steal it.

Yup. Sissi and I drove from New York to Fort Lauderdale (Florida) last year to pick up the cutest papillon puppy (see above somewhere). This should be a good moment to post this picture from a month ago again:

What a peach in a flower field!

They've got very cute ears, haven't they? They'd be very good breeds of dog when you need a coolant on a warm day. Get 'em to flap the ears.
Is there love in the sound of a closing door?

My aunt had a lovely, lovely dog called Ellen (Ellen/Eleonora is my family's family middle name. So I'm called Astrid Eleonora, my sisters all have Eleonora after their first names too etc) and she was a mix between a Yorkshire terrier and a chihuahua. Which meant she looked like a big-eared, doe-eyed Yorkshire terrier puppy her entire life. Ah, she was so sweet! My aunt had people come up to her when she was out with Ellen for her entire lifetime thinking she was a wee puppy. A really sweet little dog. Now she has a rescued greyhound dog from Ireland, called Dina. She's quite a lot bigger, of course, but just as sweet and gentle.

I don't really like most dogs close to me, as I find their paws too harsh and they tend to jump up at you etc which I don't feel comfortable with.

But they are darn cute. Yesterday outside of The co-Op, there was a chubby black lab, and she was just chillaxing right at the entrance, waiting for her owner. Then she walked into the shop, realised she wasn't allowed and just backed out again. Aw.

My mum's got two new puppies called Molly and Murphy. I'm more of a cat lover than a dog lover, but they are seriously cute little puppes. I think they're cocker spaniels. Look!
