It's a present for Ted, innit. I dropped it round Sam and Lisa's this morning.

A painting what I finished a couple of weeks ago.
I gave it to Gemma and Sophie Deirdre as their wedding present.

As one who has absolutely no ability to draw or paint, but also as a fan of your art, I found it dead interesting to read about your creative process, Andy. Yay!

eep!

thanks for that, pete, it was dead weird doing an interview... eardrums pop gave me loads of time to respond and yet I still feel a bit of a fool with some of the things I said (given the time I had to conjure up thoughtful, witty replies)... also, that crappy camera phone picture I sent them, I suppose I thought that was punk rock or something... I didn't appreciate that it would be so big and at the top of the page...

but, by the by, they were super kind to ask me to do the cover art for the (ACE!) sometimes always (ACE!) single and again for giving me a page of their site to show off some of my etchings and blether on like I'm some kind of charlie big potatoes

I love that Sometimes Always picture too - the colours are stunning, the way it's the middle of the night but the love makes everything radiant and glowy... oooh, it's a delight!

I used this picture that somebody posted on tumblr... it's a 'screengrab' but I don't know where it's from (and the original post didn't indicate that either) or indeed whether it's from some high end arthouse film or (as it was on tumblr) some seventies bluey

I guess the original photo has the qualities you mention, I just done drew it and coloured it in but I suppose by rendering it in felt tips and paint I may have heightened those qualities

clearly that was my intention all along...

Fackin' ell. If I had a wall that wasn't shite, I would want one of your painting on my wall.
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

i have this idea of painting famous battles. battles from the hundred years war, the 30 years war, the napoleonic wars, etc. battles nobody alive would remember or possess second hand knowledge about. not necessarily pre-modern but pre-industrial. if there were already artistic renderings of them - and i'm sure there are - i suppose i would just *re-render* those ?

i dont know. oil paints are expensive as hell and i don't know the first thing about mixing pigments. can anybody recommend one or two books on that subject?
