I've just realised there's no Popguns! You can't have an indie-pop compilation without the Popguns. I nominate 'Bye Bye Baby' - their own written song from Snog, not the one that they did that was written by the Bay City Rollers that they did a cover of on Alvin Lives In Leeds, though that's very good too.

That's a great track although I think Because He Wanted to just edges it. What happened to their proposed comeback? Anyone know?

I can't understand a word she's saying aside from the chorus, but I've got this thing w/certain songs that it can be the most innocuous--or even "happy"--lyrics in the world and there's something about the tune or the way it's played or chord progression (I talk from my butt, cuz I'm no musician) that makes me weepy. I keep listening to that Colin Clary (thank you, Squibooty for recommending! I'm addicted...) song "Moped Rally" and though it couldn't be more light and fluffy (or is it?? maybe it's the idea of geek comradery; or just the minor chords?), it keeps making my eyes mist. In fact, maybe that's one way in which my brain has distinguished something as "indiepop."

Yes that song's ace too! Though every song they did is the best song in the world ever, so I can't really choose between them.

I know - I'm still holding my breath waiting for it. They played a few years ago but by the time I found out about it, it had sold out. I e-mailed them and asked if there were any tickets left and they said they were going to play some more shows and that's the last I heard...

There's a track on the Northern Portrait ep which sounds exactly the sames as Popgun's 'Landslide', and is therefore ACE.

No Belle & Sebastian at all?
Of course I meant 'Indian summer', from the album 'Jamboree'. I don't care very much for the song 'Jamboree'.

right, i'll collate all these when i can be arsed. if anyone wants a CD of it just PM your address. and if i give someone the zip file do they want to host it on their blog our something? that would be cool. anymore suggestions before i permanently etch it with a laser onto a shiny shiny rainbow colour compact music disc?

I think indie pop can be reconised by the generic twee, high pitched vocals.

We've got a friend of my brother's staying with us this week and last night he asked me to play him some indiepop so he could see what the hell it's all about (he's a 30-year-old professional musician from Greece who's into black metal). So I played him what I consider to be a wide range of indiepop and he said, "Oh, they all sound the same to me: it's as if someone has asked the Sex Pistols to perform on a cruise liner for a few months". I thought that was brilliant.
