I may be ugly and hate-filled but... wait, what was the third thing you said?

Pockets Filled With Matches are no more, but we still have copies of our e.p. 'If Time Heals You' for sale, if you'd like one

I'm writing this on a headless Raspberry Pi via an ssh connection from my phone. It's utterly pointless but is filling me with such geekish joy!

I did wonder whether I should explain what I meant but it was such a pain trying to type because I couldn't use the regular keyboard on my phone and instead had to use one with really tiny keys and also the keyboard hid what I was typing so had to do it blind! I'm now sshing in from my netbook so it's a lot easier. I'm trying to set it up as a music player plugged into my hifi that I can control from my phone. Then I'll never need physical media ever again!

probably the wrong thread for this, but never mind

just as i was congratulating myself for not ruining a pair of earphones after 6 months' worth of ownership, i managed to knock my ipod out of my locker at the gym and broke the mini-jack connection.

can anyone recommend some decent earphones? not too expensive please

I've got these:

They sound nice and are pretty good at blocking external sounds and the best thing is they come with a pouch to keep them in so you don't ruin them when you scrunch and tangle them in your pocket. They're my second pair (the first got ruined after I lost the pouch). I think they were about £30 from John Lewis.

You're welcome.

I nearly lost them though! I replied while I was having my lunch and got them out to see which model they were and put them down next to me and forgot about them. I only just noticed as I was walking away. Phew!

ooh, are they the ones that block out external sounds?

i don't like them; i'm the exact sort of person who'd get run over trying to cross the road with those on

shame as they seem pretty good

They're not the sort that do the noise cancelling thing if that's what you mean. I used to have some of them but they used to make my ears ring after listening through them which is exactly what I was trying to stop! They just have a really good plug in them that stops a lot of the noise getting through. They come with three different size adapters so you can match to the size of your ear.

You can still here stuff a bit and I've not been run over yet and I'm probably the same type of person too!

I have a pair of Jays aJays Four, which cost me about £50. Really like them and they have the flat cable construction which is ace at being tangle free. Plus the in-line remote is really nice to use and they actually feel and sound fairly premium without being outrageously expensive. Personally, if I commuted on public transport and had them in for 5+ hours per day I'd probably look at some Grado's or something.

I love my aJays Four as well... I lost a pair, and immediately bought more.

Is anyone else here excited about the Pebble watch?

So what's the best affordable software for converting from VHS to PC/DVD?

Do you have a TV card? That's probably the first step. It would likely come with capture software.
