I was sceptical about the using-the-mains thing. I'd bought flat Cat5e patch cable and run it all the way from the living room to the attic floor in our old house, as wireless was rubbish up there. I thought I'd have to do that again. We switched to BT in the new house (no cable around here) and they provided the little boxes to go in the mains sockets. I tried it and quite honestly it doesn't feel particularly slower than when I used patch cable and had fibre optic broadband. I don't download big files much, mind.

I'm going to have to 'gen up' (as my parents might say) on how to work out about networks. Will see what I can do. Thanks.

When I used Windows I used to like winamp but that was a gazillion years ago (in computing terms).
I still use Winamp as well. Something bad happened with it once, but I can't remember what, and it's un-happened since. I like Winamp because it just plays music without trying to be the almighty omnipotent commanding emperor in chief of all the computers you will ever use in your whole life.

That's what I liked about it and what I like about the one I use currently (moc).

When I bought my small computer, they messaged me a day later to say would I like to buy some antivirus ware for it, because it'd need to be special and they'd send it on a flash drive so it'd go in a USB port and that. I said no, thanks.

Can I just download Avast or AVG or whatever using the little computer as I would on my PC?

They were just trying to flog me stuff, no?

As far as I know there should be no difference between anti-virus on a netbook and on a regular laptop. The only difference might be that because it's less powerful you might want something that uses less resources. tonieee xxx
