Kids these days don't know they're born. I reckon half the people I know who've had replacement iPods were invalidating the warranty anyway by mistreating the equipment. I blame mobile phone upgrade culture.

Yeah, although they do have thinks like spill detectors in laptops which are a nice way of detecting spill-related lies... Of course mobile phone upgrade culture is related to subscription services. If we all had monthly iTunes subscriptions, then eternal iPod replacement might make more sense.

I see what you mean. But that means that if there's an inherent fault (e.g. all iPods break after 18 months) then you're left without a working product eventually. Also, the time I was waiting for a replacement (over a month) wasn't added on to the warranty either.

Yes, that's true. If they thought they would last forever, they'd probably offer lifetime warranties. I'm surprised you had to wait a month for a replacement, though.

Has anyone bought the new iPod shuffle? Is it any good?

I keep reading reviews about the headphones being a shambles. How does it work? Like, can I use my own headphones and it'll still play? Or is the play button on the Apple headphones as well?

So many questions.
This is bad comedy.

The hold switch thing on my iPod has stopped working, and now I can't lock it when it's in my pocket or bag. This annoying enough to piss me off, but not enough to justify buying a new mp3 player. Curses...

I've just bought my first ipod, the new nano. I don't tend to use mp3 players a lot really, I commute many km everyday, but by car and then when I travel (usually by plane) I don't miss it too much either. But now I'm moving and that will imply lots of buses and I think I might use it more, so I decided to buy one. It's all shiny and cool, but it's the radio what I really like about the new one. Stupid, maybe.

Oooh. The new nano looks cool. A radio and camera in a 64GB ipod touch would be exactly up my street.

That's pretty much what I've been waiting for before getting a new one, although I would rather have one with more storage I think (I'm being greedy, I know, but I'm not so bothered about the radio and camera). My current ipod is just over 4 years old now, it's an old 60gb ipod photo so I've been waiting for the ipod touch to at least match the size of it's hard drive before replacing it. I've been having to reset it at least once every couple of weeks for a few months now, so I think it's on it's way out. I've got my fingers crossed that the 64gb ipod touch will drop in price fairly quickly or else I think I might end up just getting an ipod classic once mine finally dies.

It seems unlikely, particularly if the camera model comes out shortly. Maybe they'll drop the price of the 64gb-sans-camera.

I kind of fancy an iPod touch with 64Gb. I've had my 40Gb iPod for 5 and a half years now and it seems slightly ludicrous that I've not been tempted to upgrade yet, but it's been great and all the iPods just haven't seemed enough of an upgrade. The battery's not quite what it was in 2004 (I actually notice it losing charge between uses now), but other than that nothing's ever gone wrong with it.

Mind you, I've got this fancy phone now, off the back of a lorry as it were, which gets a wifi signal. That means I've one less reason to get an iPod touch, of course.

You can swap out the iPod's battery, and often the replacement may be better than the original ever was. I wouldn't try to dissuade you from the new iPod touch. Unless you want to wait it out and see if you can get one with a camera. It was rumoured the first run were faulty, but since they didn't get announced at all, it seems a bit strange that they'd release a new iPod touch without a camera.

By which I mean, they'll probably come out in a year. Such is life.

But to me that doesn't seem strange at all. For the price of an iPod you can get a much better camera, and most people seem to have basic cameras on their phones these days. If you buy an iPhone then I can see why a camera is desirable as you might be throwing one away when you upgrade, but I just don't see the point with an iPod. When am I likely to have an iPod to hand, but not have my phone on me?

Hmm. Maybe I'll just nip over to Maplin and sort my battery out.

No, I just mean if it was going to include one, but the camera was faulty, it seems strange that they'd release a new model iPod touch without including the camera. You'd think they'd wait. There were images on the internet of prototype 'iPod Touch with camera' cases.

Can't say I do Gordon but right now I'm addicted to Parachute Ninja. And before that I was hooked to Angry Birds for about 3 weeks.

59p games FTW!

Ooh, those are both on Social Gaming networks. Parachute Ninja is on 'Plus+' and Angry Birds is on 'Crystal'. You should click the little logs, so I can be a massive geek and see if I'm better at them than you (I think there's also challenges and things).

This is probably a daft question - but if you have an iphone then can you listen to digital radio that has sites online - e.g. 6 music - when on the bus/ train etc?

And more to the point, does it actually work well?

Does the 3G version of iphone make a big difference with this?

I have been pondering buying an iphone for aeons, and am perhaps on the cusp/ verge of finally buying one. I already have an itouch - which put me off from getting the iphone (it might make my itouch redundant) - but do like the idea of being able to access e-mail at work where i can't access my hotmail account..

I think so. I use a Touch via WiFi at home and use it for all those things. As far as I'm aware 3g lets you do all those things without needing the WiFi. I have no idea how reliable a radio stream will be on the move mind you, but in theory yes it'll do everything a Touch does. I'd get an iPhone myself but I have no need of a phone or the bills that go with them, I love the Touch/ipho e though mainly because I can browse the net lying in bed.
