Windows 8/Windows 10

Anyone else on 8? How are you getting on?

I've just bought a new laptop with Windows 8. It's pretty good now that I've changed it to look and feel exactly the same as Windows 7.

Got a new machine with 8 on it here. I quite like it. A lot of those 'apps' are rubbish but not really planning on using them anyway.

Windows 8/Windows 10

Windows 10, anyone? The update thing has just popped up on my lappy, so I can get it now if I want. I've heard it's really good but... I'm (a) worried that not all my software will port over OK (sure MS Office will be fine, less sure the Adobe creative suite and the audio stuff - Tracktion/Wavepad) and (b) still not sure the tiles interface thingy won't be horrible without a touchscreen.

Actually, could a mod change the thread title to Windows 8/Windows 10 please?

If you're happy with 8 at the moment it's probably best to wait. Let other people do the testing and then check the forums in a few months for the particular software you have to see if others are having problems. I think you've got a year to upgrade before they start charging.

I'm going to try it when I get the opportunity because i doubt it can possibly make my computer any slower than it already is!

10 seems fine, but 'shut down' only causes my pc to restart (i tried 'restart' in case the functions were mysteriously switched, but they don't seem to be).

Couldn't get Windows 10 to install on my laptop (don't buy a Toshiba laptop, people), but now running it on my desktop PC at work and it seems good so far. Nice solid feel to it, more like lovely lovely XP than the weightless, insubstantial feel of V*sta, 7 and 8. But quite pretty with it.

I wish the bloody 'Recent locations' thing in Explorer would come back though.

I'd upgrade to Windows 10 but I think I'd miss that window that pops up every day encouraging me to upgrade to Windows 10. I've come to love that little guy.

There should be a "Quick Access" location on the left hand pane, that will show recent files and frequent folders.

Thanks. I've got that but it's just showing really generic stuff like 'Documents' and 'Downloads'. Maybe it needs a bit longer to learn!

If you actually left click on Quick Access rather than just open the drop down the main explorer pane should show the last 20 recent files and 8 most frequently accessed folders.
