Do any of you craft?

My son is hooked. I could do with a primer.

I could send Ralph round to give him some pointers? He'd love that. Is it PC version or xbox?

Also Stampy Longhead/nose on YouTube is very popular. I'd be careful of other YouTubes about Minecraft as some are quite offensive but Stampy's fine.

Good to know, thanks. It's the Android pocket version - monopolising my tablet!

Ralph's got that version as well, on his phone. I think the Raspberry Pi version is based on that version too.

I'm not a violent man but if I ever meet Stampy I'll not be held responsible for my actions. He's the bane of my existence...

Really? I think he's alright. I can understand that some people might find his laugh really annoying but it doesn't bother me.

The only problem is that given the chance Ralph would watch him 24 hours a day. He watches Stampy playing Minecraft more than he plays Minecraft himself. I don't really understand why he enjoys watching other people play video games so much but then I don't see attraction of watching other people play football (or any other sport) but a lot of people do.

Well, I was exaggerating for (admittedly not very) comedic effect! It's just his voice - and the constant stream of inanity - sets my teeth on edge. Exactly the same with my boy, he'd watch him all day.

I'm interested in the idea of Minecraft on the Raspberry Pi though (not for me, I find looking at Minecraft very disorientating). Does it work well? L plays pocket edition on iPad and seems to prefer that to the full thing on my Mac. And they've started doing coding at school - isn't the Pi good for that too? Sorry, I'm a bit clueless...

It's very similar to the pocket edition as far as I can tell but I've not spent a great deal of time in either. Programming it is done in Python and there is an API for creating blocks and other stuff too. All we've done is create animated structures (by having a loop which creates blocks in different positions) but it seems quite easy.

I think he's quite sweet and think that he's a better role model for young boys than a lot of the aggressive idiots who make Minecraft videos on YouTube. But I can see how his voice can be really annoying.

There's now a lot I could add on this topic. For the moment my number 1 tip is: if you're having a fight with a creeper, make sure your dogs are sitting down somewhere out of the way.

*sniffle*
