other craftiness

Post by miss deepfreeze » Tue Mar 18, 2008 16:38

i know we have threads for knitting and sewing, but i'm rubbish at them. so i thought i'd start one for general craftiness.

maybe, like me, you like needly things like cross stitch and blackwork?
felting? crochet? scrapbooking? silk screening? or just general DIY goodness?

i'm crafty a little birthday present for someone right now, but it's a secret so i'll post a picture when it's done.

i can decoupage. sometimes at family reunions when we're out camping i find myself in a forcible decoupage situation when my cousin tracy has brought along her huge craft trunk. and she make us all be crafty.

I did a bit of decoupage once.

Big ups for quilling and marquetry. I used to love marquetry but always used to sack off the actual pictures on the box and make my own.
And by me, I mean, Flexo.

If we have a paper products thread, I can't find it. Whereas this is wrong, I can't be arsed to create one either.

These new notecards (hand stitched!) from buyolympia are killing me. I wish I still wrote letter just so I could justify buying some.

While I was recovering at my parents' in June, my niece kept coming into my room and taking all these ribbons and things out and spreading them out all over the floor saying "Let's have a crabs show" and "We're having a crabs show." My friend and I had no idea what she was talking about.

I was at her house on Friday and she asked me if I wanted to do "Arts and Crabs" with her. Mystery solved!

i went into muji today and they had this little section of scrapbooking and photo album things and they had examples of albums with photos and drawings and things cut out of magazines and i got all excited and now i've gone scrapbooking mad. it's perfect, it's gonna get really cold soon and there's lots of rain and talk of typhoons and i love scrapbooks, so now i have something i can be getting on with right here in my flat.

i bought a really nice album with the sticky pages, it had black pages but i bought some white ones so i can have a mix. and i bought some pens too. then i went to the art shop and got some pens that can write on black paper. and now i'm collecting up lots of little things and waiting for all the photos i had developed in england to be sent over. i can't wait to start. but i'm also scared to start because i have an image in my mind and i want it to be perfect. yay, scrapbook!

This is one for the all bearded hippy knitters in the audience.

WEB ADDRESS: http://thecraftycreatures.blogspot.com / http://www.fairpensions.org.uk/

On the 18th April Crafty Creatures launches its very first crafternoon extravaganza at the St Pancras Church Hall This is your chance to create your very own T Shirt Dog, pig out on the finest range of homemade cakes, drink tea until you turn into a tea bag and listen to some very fine music. What more could you want? Roller skating hostesses…ok then.

Crafty Creatures is the clever guise of the charity FairPensions (full notes on charity below) and the all profits will go directly to them. This event also aims to raise the profile of FairPensions, who campaign for the money you invest in your pension to be invested responsibly and ethically. Keeping in line with the ethical ethos of FairPensions we will be encouraging attendees to bring their oldest, most loved but well worn T shirt - which they don’t mind cutting up and transforming into a stuffed dog - to this event. Whilst your creative juices are flowing our lovely hostesses will be at your beck and call serving up homemade cakes and a wide selection of hot drinks. If you love winning prizes (and let’s face it who doesn’t?) then our raffle will tickle your fancy. Take pleasure in knowing that you are helping to save the planet whilst creating your very own piece of dog shaped art.

This is a fun filled day that will leave your heart and mind feeling satisfied and your stomach filled to the brim. Come along to St Pancras Church Hall and let out your inner crafty creature.

Um, scrapbooking anyone? Sounds about as chic or hip as, say, a soccer mom!
I do the usual: family stuff, travels. But I'm determined to make a scrapbook of past concerts I've attended.
(Been attempting one for a couple of years now.)

I agree with alongwalkhome about those beautiful notecards. Would be a great cover letter for a mixtape exchange.

I've been trying to learn how to embroider lately. The above is my first real attempt (it's supposed to be a sort of fox in a burrow, though when I went to visit my mother I showed it to her and she said, "What a nice cat," so clearly I have some work to do.)
