What's on your lists of things to do and learn?

like, y'know, crafty stuff, exercise, walking, gardening...

Considering I go three times a year, it does feel a bit lame to have it on my list.

I do however have incredibly specific packing lists and to do lists for before I go, which are being ticked off. I guess I can only do three lists at a time, haha! Lists are so brilliant though.

Watch it Astrid so you don't make too many lists! I used to spend all my time making lists, so I ended up not having any time left to actually do the things on them. Haha. My therapist told me to be realistic and not make lists of things I would never have time to do, because that would just make me feel down and disappointed with myself. So I made a list of lists I shouldn't make!

i understood about as far as astrid saying she needs to make lists because her head is muddy or something? then i had to stop reading.

i love making lists like this, although i rarely finish them.

i made a list in about february and one of the main things on it was getting a bike, which i've done!
but i haven't started learning to crochet properly, or grown any of my own food (apart from my random windowsill herb collection).
i was baking all my own bread, but i've been a bit lazy with that the last month or two.
i have started volunteer tutoring, which was a big one for this year.

hmm.

Haha, yes! I was saying that unless I make lists, you can bet that I'll forget two or three things to do in town/at uni/at home, or something like that, and it's just so damn annoying. I think making lists is ok as long as you don't get obsessed with them and can cross things off, or save them for later.

Your goals sound quite big though, and that always takes quite a lot of time.

I'm adding nr 23, I think, to the list:

23. Read more. Just in general. Read more, watch TV that I don't care about/sit around in front of the computer less. It's weird because I know I enjoy the reading more, it's just that it's easy to veg out in front of the telly or the laptop.

You know I was on about coming to visit you sometime? Well, I was thinking I'd tie in the walk to Spurn Point with that. Get the bus out from from Hull to Easington or Kilnsea and walk out from there.

Ooh, you can get a bus all the way there now:

Wouldn't be as much fun though. If fun is the right word.

You should!

I've taken my first bambiesque steps towards knowledge, responsibility and respect for money and my economy. I keep a book where I write down how much I spend every day, what it is and what category it falls under (I took this from an economy makeover show in Sweden, it gives good overview!) and it is making me feel a lot more conscious about how I spend and for what reason(s).

This, reading more and making a genuine (and not procrastinated) effort at university is making me rather happy.

It is strange though, how sometimes even the patterns in your life that you acknowledge and notice when they happen, are still so incredibly hard to break. Even when you know they're not good for you and it's not something that would take a huge amount of effort to change. Hmmm. It's strange. But I keep working on my list!

i want to learn to play piano. i've given up on guitar. my fingers are too fat.
and i want to run a half marathon, now i've done a 10k. though running a 10k faster is a more immediate goal

i need to watch less tv (maybe easy now I don't have cable), and spend that time reading books, studying japanese, keeping my house a bit neater, listening to music, etc.

I want to learn how to cane chairs. My parents have some chairs in the loft that need redoing. My Mum used to know how to do it and says it's not very difficult.

Cherry Darling wrote:I'm going to put this list on my wall (along with "Fun things to do in London that I haven't done yet")

1. Do more knitting and get better at it.
2. Write some short stories.
3. Maintain a blog.
4. Go on the cross trainer at least five times a week.
5. Cook more and cook creatively.
6. Watch a lot of films.
7. Read at least two books a week (one 'proper', one graphic novel).
8. Pumice my feet more often.
9. Record an album in a month.
10. Practice music (bass and piano).
Nearly a year on and what have I done?

1. Knitting: Fail. I'm just not very good at it.
2. Writing: I started a novel. Well, I wrote the first two lines.
3. Blogging: I joined Twitter. Does that count?
4. Exercise: I lost about 18lbs... but put 12lbs on again.
5. Cooking: I can't remember the last time I cooked.
6. Films: I go to the cinema more. But mostly I just watched Six Feet Under and Battlestar Galactica.
7. Reading: I haven't read a novel in ages, but read a lot of comics and short stories.
8. Pumice: I did this! Woot!
9. Writing Music: I've written a few songs, but that's it. Still, the band is the only thing I think I've ever persevered with
10. Playing Music: I'm getting a piano when I move, so hopefully I'll get back into that.

I think I'm going to print that list and put it on my fridge. Things to add to it...

11. Learn French.
12. Make stuff instead of buying it, e.g. cushion covers
13. Do a part-time MA in Linguistics (I'll have to finish the one I'm doing first, but I should start looking at courses now) I reckon)

I made some progress with this:

as you can see, the seats of the chairs come off which makes it a lot easier. That's as far as I got before I had to get the train back to Edinburgh, and I didn't really feel like carrying that on the train long with a big bag of cane. (Although it would have given me something to do during the hour i had to kill in Birmingham New Street station).

It's a very slow process; it's not far from completion in those pictures (~1/4 of the diagonals left and the wide bit around the edge to hide the holes), but I spent most of two days on that. I made one mistake that I didn't notice still I started doing the diagonals. The above pictures are small, but you can spot it if you look carefully…
