Ah ok. You're just mixing the miles and the kilometers then. Hopefully I'll be running 5k easily within a couple of weeks! 10k seems a bit away right now.

It's probably confusing because we do most things in miles in the UK but for some reason we talk about running in k/km. I'm not sure why that is.

Anyway. I did about 2.5k today (1.5miles) and it felt totally manageable. Except all the hills. I wish my local park wasn't called Hilly Fields...

I've been 3 times now (2,5km) and I still enjoy it. That's good. I still almost die though, by the end of it. I also suddenly remember what real sweating feels like. It'd been a while. I don't think ever before in my life have I been in such a bad shape as now.

I've just signed up for a 5k run on the 3rd November. I should finish Couch 2 5K mid-October, so I will have a couple of weeks to consolidate* my running before embarrassing myself in front of a bunch of people. I think it's probably good to have a specific goal to work towards, and I'll be raising money for the charity I work for at the same time. Even if something happens that means I can't run 5k by then, I can always do a combo of running and walking. But I'm hoping to run it all.

I still can't believe I got up at 6.30am for a run though. I'm turning into one of "those people".

*I hate that word. It makes me sound like some weird management twat.

I have to run that early, else I'll just talk myself out of it during the day. The latest I ever run is during my lunch hour. Then I go and get a bacon bun immediately afterwards.

I just came back from the worst run ever. Well, maybe not, but it was HARD! Exactly the same stupid 2,5km I've been running the previous 3 times. How does that happen? Oh well.

Maybe running early in the morning would be a good idea, but I don't know if I can get up extra early for it. Now I do it just before dinner.

Yeah, I don't think I could face going for a run after work really - I'd be too tired and slumpy - and I guess it's a pretty good start to the day. Luckily it's only on Tuesdays I have to get up that early - I start work later on Thursdays and they're the only two weekdays I run.

I'm slightly freaked out how addictive running gets and how quickly. Last time I did any running I got slightly obsessed, but then I got ill and once I broke the habit I struggled to claw it back.

running after work kind of 'resets' me... helps me forget about what may have gone on in the office that day, and tires me out/helps me sleep later.

i can't run in the morning. i feel all empty and weak and weird. bleurgh.

I just thought I'd mention that my charity fundraising page for my 5k run in November is here. I wholly acknowledge that 5k hardly counts as a run at all by most runners' standards, but every lard arse has to start somewhere, eh?

It's with the running that I really noticed for the first time how much weight I must have gained. I don't have a working scale at home, but I don't remember ever actually noticing my belly as a moving thing while running before. Ugh. Quite some work to do, then.

Or I could just starve myself for a week.

I'm vaguely proud of myself. I have a stinking cold but didn't allow myself to use that as an excuse for not going for my Tuesday or Thursday morning runs... And today I went the furthest I have in ages... nearly 4k! So I'm still on track for my 5k run in November.

I've had ITBS but that was fixed by posture and running mechanics

Are you pushing too hard? It sounds a bit like you tried to pick up where you left off and it was too much maybe?

Can you try something low impact like a cross trainer or swimming while you recover and then ease more slowly back into running?

It's probably a result of my weight gain, running on uneven concrete and pushing it a bit too hard, yes. It's unfortunate because my heart and lungs were starting to agree with it, but my legs didn't.

I may try swimming, but I'm not sure if I'll like that 3 x a week.

runner's knee is primarily the ITB anyway, so i'd suggest foam rolling the area, google ITB stretches and sticking to them. Also, make sure her shoes are correct for her... standard things really that youmay have already tried. :(

Today I ran 5k in 29.40! I can hardly believe that less than eight weeks ago I could only run about two minutes at a time. I'm so pleased!

Now I've got three weeks before the 5k run I've signed up for to try and maintain or improve on that speed.

I'm impressed. Just started running again after a year. I have noticed an unpleasant flopping sound as I run and realized it's my belly slapping my thighs. I can do without the "applause" as I gallantly hurtle down grassy knolls in the bunny park near home.

I go out around 7am after breakfast and have great fun racing rabbits and the occasional fox.
