Panini Football Sticker Swapsies. Anyone?

Post by Mr Kittens » Sat Jun 12, 2010 12:48

Alright. I'm collecting the Panini South Africa 2010 stickers, and I only have one person to swap with at the moment. And, well, my duplicates are mounting up. I've written my current swapsies list here. I intend to keep it up-to-date as and when more appear, or *fingers crossed* disappear!

So, anybody out there interested in swapping by post? Check out what I have, tell me what you have, and we'll arrange something mutually beneficial!

Right, South Korea v Greece started fifteen minutes ago, and I've already missed one goal...

Excellent! I was fully expecting this to be one of those sad and lonely threads with no replies, sinking slowly to the bottom of the page, all forlorn and puppy-eyed. But no!

Damian - I've looked at your list, and I need around 20-25 on there. I'm awaiting some of my real-life contact's swaps either tomorrow or Wednesday - when I receive those, I'll know exactly what I shall want from you and PM you with my wants list.

I have a few more to add to my own swaps list from today's new packets - I'll update that tomorrow, and hopefully you can find plenty you need on there.

I look forward to seeing Trev's list! And Ogato - you've done really well to have only five more to go - I was aiming for the 100-to-go mark before sending off to Panini for the remainder - I have about 200 empty spaces right now.

My current list is here.

I've sent Damian and Trev a list of my "wants" - 24 from Damian and 27 from Trev. My swaps list is up to date as of today (linked to in a previous post). Hopefully there's plenty there that you both need.

I've replied to Mr kittens and updated my blog. Though it seems that the message might not have sent yet.

Will have a look at Trev's soon, can't handle the excitement of getting more than a few stickers at once.

I'm very glad to see someone else on this thread. I did start collecting this set on a whim, assuming that I'd easily find other people locally to swap with, but it's proved not to be the case. This is what the internet's all about!

By the way, for those of you who have the England team group and emblem - have you noticed how Panini were presumably forced to delete the England badge off of all the player's shirts? And as for the so-called "emblem"? I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it...but what a disgrace! How much were the FA charging Panini to produce stickers of their precious three lions? Image rights are shit. They've embarrassed the entire nation with their money-grabbing stupidity.

Damian - the 'birds' are in the 'air'.

Mr Kittens - I will look through your list and reply to your PM tomorrow evening, probably.

What's everyone's favourite sticker? Carlos Costly is up there, for me.

Favourite sticker? Well, if it's funny names, then Carlos Costly was the one I really wanted. I thought he sounded just the type of player that would sign for Wigan or Birmingham...and sure enough, I looked him up on the 'net, and he has actually played for Brum.

Waldo Ponce is another favourite. Commentators take note - there is no acute accent on the E! It's Ponce, not Pon-say! And similarly, Clive Tyldesley, it's Shittu, not Shee-tu.

But my current favourite is Ivory Coast's 'keeper, Boubacar Barry. If only Gareth Barry's mum and dad had had such poetry in their hearts when they named him.

Away from chucklesome names, my favourite sticker is 000. It's a thing of beauty.

Oh, and my next project is to go through the entire sticker album and match up each player's birth date with Peel session broadcasts taken from the Ken Garner Peel Sessions book, eg, did you know that Matthew Upson was born the same day that an Ivor Cutler session was broadcast? Or that Emile Heskey greeted the world to the sound of a Viv Stanshall session? I'd like to think that his mum was listening to that as he popped out.

Other random birth/Peel session match-ups include Diego Milito - Buzzcocks; Lionel Messi and the great Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle; David James and Fairport Convention...

sorry, this is totally not a sticker-related post, and at the risk of sounding like a massive ponce (hoho! see what i did there?), assuming you are speaking about the chilean player then it is indeed pon-say. in spanish, if there is no obvious accent to suggest otherwise, the accent is on the penultimate syllable of the word, ie PON-say.

sorry. i am both riddled with hayfever and full on insomnia. carry on.

I stand corrected! As you may have guessed, my knowledge of Spanish is limited to the usual "dos cervezas, por favor". I shall however, be asking "Where's Waldo?" during Chile's next match, as Waldo Ponce shall be suspended...

On a sticker-related note, I have updated my list of swaps - to be found at the same link as in previous posts. They're in a big pile by the side of the computer here, and I'm afraid they may topple over at any moment, so I could do with getting rid of some. Take as many as you like!
