Pick a band to play at Indietracks!

Post by in search of lazy jane » Wed Mar 26, 2008 12:36 am

I've now spent a month listening to about 200 bands that have asked to play that I've rejected.

I'm now at the tricky part of narrowing down the ones I liked the best for the last two slots. I'd really like to have them all play, but that's not possible. So I'm looking for your input to this. I want to know (from these selections) who you'd like to see play.

Please take the time to listen to them all properly, and don't just pick them for reasons such as you / your mate is in the band. This may be your only chance to see some of these bands, and they are all charming and each deserves a chance to be heard.

For one slot - I've never been to Italy but I'd like an Italian band to play. These four have asked to come:

Orange LEM - http://www.myspace.com/orangelem" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Le Man Avec Les Lunnettes - http://www.myspace.com/occhialuto" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A Classic Education - http://www.myspace.com/aclassiceducation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Warm Morning - http://www.myspace.com/warmmorning" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So please have a listen, comment, and let me know which of the four you'd like to come play live for you!

This second list is a bit bigger. There'll be some recognisable names, many not!

For the second and final slot, we need to pick one from:

Modesty Blaise - http://www.myspace.com/themodestyblaise" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Pocket Promise - http://www.myspace.com/pocketpromise" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Hillfields - http://www.myspace.com/thehillfields" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Unfortunately only one of these will get to play (unless some more slots become available). Hopefully you'll at least find some new bands in there that you like and check them out in other places as well.

So, let me know what you think!

A Classic Education sounds like they would put on the best live show.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of any of the three bands on the first list, but I guess Warm Morning get my vote.

The second list of bands is cool. I like both The Rocky Nest and Zissou, I think they'd both go down well, especially The Rocky Nest. Would be really awesome to see We Show Up On RadaR play as there isn't anyone from Nottingham 'representing', yo. Airport Girl semi-count, I guess. The Seven Inches would be good too.

So yeah, any from The Rocky Nest, Zissou, The Seven Inches or WSUOR.

from the second list I like Little My or TV Glory. Of course this is just based on a couple of tracks, how long are the sets? More than 15 minutes would start to get on my nerves with a lot of these bands.

Warm Morning is good also from the first list.

Ste McCabe - http://www.myspace.com/stemccabe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - have wanted to see them live for a while
The Hillfields - http://www.myspace.com/thehillfields" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - they played our Cloudberry night and are fab!
Little My - http://www.myspace.com/tinylittlemy" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - ahhhhhh, they're great
Sparky's Magic Piano- http://www.myspace.com/sparkysmagic" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - ahhhhhh, they're great too.

That's more than one. Damn it.

A Classic Education from Italy. We have covered them a few times on indie mp3.

From list two. My Sad Captains are pretty great live these days. If not them (and doing the Proportional Representation Route) I will go for Town Bike as I missed them last week!

I'd love to see Modesty Blaise, especially if they were all orchestraled up (might be a bit of logistical nightmare)

otherwise there's a bunch of bands there I'd really like to see but I can't pick just one

I don't know, let the groovy cats decide and if the one they pick are rubbish then I'll just sneer at them

I'd take A Classic Education from the first list.

The second list is tough - Help Stamp Out Loneliness would be brilliant though, The Lino Heart on their myspace is so good.

Town Bike would be brilliant fun at a festival and My Sad Captains are really impressive live.

Gah, I can't decide. At the moment I'm leaning towards Modesty Blaise or Sparky's, but need to have a proper listen... When would you like us to respond by, Stuart?

I haven't listened to any of the bands in the second list yet, but from a quick scan of the names one leapt out for me.

Help Stamp Out Loneliness! Colm from Languages Of Flowers' new band - the song I've heard is amazing!

It's not really an easy choice is it?

I'll leave it open for a week or so since there's quite a few bands at that second that list.

There are some other bands that couldn't make it that I wanted to play, mostly familiar names but you might not have heard of this one and they are definately worth listening to: http://www.myspace.com/springfactory" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I thought you'd come here to post some votes for fake bands.

Seabear! Honestly!
