My first encounter of them was one of them bellowing "WHAT DID I JUST SAY" at someone who had paid to use their campsite. My friend had a massive arguement with one of them, they (quite rudely and aggressively) told me I couldn't camp with a big group of my friends, and when we nipped out to get money and booze and asked if we could bring the car back in we got a shit load of attitude from them.

I appreciate that it's a very busy weekend for them and maybe they get a bit stressed, but we are paying customers (who are getting charged more than their normal customers to boot) and shouldn't have to put up with that kind of shit. Didn't let it ruin Indietracks (very little could)but am kind of wishing I could afford the hotel next year...

EDIT: Should point out that some of them were dead nice...
I had a big row with the surly suedehead, who was insistent I paid him £75 for one night's camping. In the end he stormed out and I paid his curly haired mate £25. It was all I could do not to tell him to 'fuck off'. I've had enough of his attitude over the years. I'm going somewhere else next year, and getting some green paper wrapped round my wrist and blagging into the disco (which is the usually the best one!).

DJ JD! Easily the highlight of my festival last year - Crazytown's Butterfly in the upstairs cabin disco. Great lad.

The older guy he was 'shadowing' was stoned and/or abrasive the entire weekend.

The manager, whose name escapes me (Sean Bean's Angry Brother / rhymes or sounds like a Scottish slang word?) was pretty decent this time around. To be fair myself and Big Papa Nick turned up on Thursday lunchtime and he pointed us to "where yez were lawst yeurr" at the corner beside the car entrance. Also let us pitch a 5-man tent a night early for folk arriving in the rain the next day beside ours without any hassle. Wee beer and fag at 7pm on the Thursday and mirrored version at 7am on the Monday he said it was the smoothest yet - even with the rain hassle.

The campsite kinda makes it for a lot of us. It's a step above even the most 'boutique' of festivals with the fixed showers / toilets / café but they could probably make a more concerted effort to accommodate the sheer number. I guess we shoo away so many of the quiet families and dismantling a collapsed chair jenga at 4am on a Sunday isn't something they're used to/paid to deal with.

Additional tables/chairs this year made a big difference as well as the lino runway so it's not like they didn't push things out. Even if they charged quadruple the combined ticket and camping would still be cheaper than most other festivals on rocky ground with a shower per 500 folk.

Any tips on the camping front?

I will be going with my wife and 5 year old daughter. I understand that there is some kind of disco (which I am sure to attend) but should I ask to be in a certain field so that it is not too loud for the little one?

Ask for the top field. Be prepared for the rudest and most obnoxious staff ever to work at a camp site.... or anywhere, really.

Did anyone keep in touch with the mysterious taxi driver who was offering to let us camp in his fields last year? Maybe we could go on a mission to seek him out before July?!

Last year £25 a night, minimum stay two nights. The Travelodge can't be much more expensive.

The Travelodge doesn't have a disco tent and is a ball-ache to get to.

Just booked our camping too.

The lady on the phone said they didn't need to take a deposit, and that I should give my name and pay in full upon arrival, no receipt or confirmation email or anything needed.... which is the kind of simple, hassle-free arrangement I'd normally be more than happy with, but, given Golden Valley's somewhat erratic approach to customer service, it does make me *slightly* worried I might turn up and find they've never heard of me etc etc.

Is anyone else in the same boat...? (Because if it's standard procedure this year, that's fine, but if it's just me, I might phone back and ask for a booking conf of some kind...)

Same for me, last year it was this way and I had no problems at all.
