The lady on the phone said they didn't need to take a deposit, and that I should give my name and pay in full upon arrival, no receipt or confirmation email or anything needed.... which is the kind of simple, hassle-free arrangement I'd normally be more than happy with, but, given Golden Valley's somewhat erratic approach to customer service, it does make me *slightly* worried I might turn up and find they've never heard of me etc etc.

Is anyone else in the same boat...? (Because if it's standard procedure this year, that's fine, but if it's just me, I might phone back and ask for a booking conf of some kind...)
I've just booked, and they took a £25 deposit and are sending an email confirmation, which surprised me as they haven't asked for a deposit before.

Just booked my camping. They sent an email confirmation with this little nugget:
The Indie Tracks event and prices are different to our everyday camping pricing; this is due to large mass of festival goers so we have to stop family leisure weekend holidays to cater for indie tracks
1. They don't "have" to stop families from coming. They can warn any non-Indietrack people who want to stay over the weekend and let them make their own decision.

2. Never been (and wouldn't go) to Golden Valley apart from when absolutely necessary, but I think it's a good bet that the weekend of 26-28 July wouldn't be quite as busy if it wasn't Indietracks, making their argument a bit flawed.

They really should just admit that they have an opportunity to get more money out of the indiepop crowd and are grasping it with both hands. Golden Shower Caravan Site more like.

is there a middle ground option for people who aren't particularly angry about the campsite and are looking forward to staying there, but have seen some pretty gobshitey attitude from the staff in previous years and can understand why other people feel so narked?

The camping has put me off going this year. Maybe a day trip for Saturday or Sunday.

It's £90 for my wife and I (0ne tent/car no hook up) I thought it rather steep at first and was about to contest it with 'reception'.... I had a think and reconsidered, I didn't want to start the festival on a negative.. So I looked at the bigger picture, got a grip and changed my attitude accordingly. Really looking forward to Indietracks.

It's £75 for just me and my teensy tiny tent. Those discos better be fantastic!

My point wasn't so much how expensive it is (though it is steep), but more how they're charging more money to Indietracks punters because they know they basically have to camp there, then lying about why they are charging more.

Can't say I'm surprised by this. It's all part of the wonderful Golden Valley customer service experience.

Free market economy?.... I agree with you Dan, as I said my initial reaction was... you cheeky bleeders!

I calculated the normal price on their website, only to discover a 50% increase over that weekend.
I've gotten over it now, didn't take much effort

In fact we spent a couple of nights there last month to check it out. Can't fault it. Good facilities. Clean. Nice location & great walk to festival...
You can park right near to your tent (no walking 2 miles with your gear!)... Bargain

It's a doddle to be honest, and it'll have the lovely vibe of people with a common cause for the weekend :)

CAMPING BOOKED!

spoke to Danielle who was really lovely, but the got cut off as she had to stop a car going the wrong way (!), so phoned back again and spoke to a bloke who took my details with cheerful "No need for a deposit mate"

Then 30 seconds after I put the phone down had a what-if-they-dont-remember-the-booking panic. But THEN I thought, there's no way they are going to turn down £75 for me and a tent. That would be bonkers.
And we just can't wait to make more mistakes and to fluff our breaks, and to stuff our faces with cake.

They do remember, it's totally fine. Actually they seen really good at it; despite the protestations about the cost and grumpiness of the campsite staff, they've never yet lost/forgotten a single booking I've made with them.

They even gave us the option this year of whether we wanted to pay a deposit or not. We didn't. But nice to have a choice :)

I booked today with Danielle. She was a bit funny with me at first as I questioned (politely) the £5 per night for my car when it clearly says on the website that the nightly price includes a car. I've previously paid a fiver for the whole weekend for my car, but she just said "Well the website is wrong". That made it £90 for one person in one tent with one car. She said I'd have to take it up with the owner, who I established was the often grumpy guy with the suedehead.

I said I'd call back later, then thought twice and decided to book it anyway. Unprompted she said she'd speak to her Dad (Suedehead) and see if they could do any discount seeing as it was just me in the tent/car. He'll probably say no but its worth bearing in mind if you haven't booked yet to be nice and try and appeal to their good side. It does seem it depends who you get. Also, yes they shamelessly put the price up by a tenner a night but some of them are really nice and it is actually pretty luxurious for festival camping.

Oh and she asked for a deposit, she didn't give me an option, but that was fine, its only £25 and spreads the cost I guess.

Camping booked today, deposit seemed optional, paid £25 out of the £75 for a 3 night 2 person 1 tent 0 car doobry.

The next three weeks are gonna really drag aren't they. I'm ready now! Apart from needing to check a tent I've not used for 1 year 11 month to make sure it's not manky.

I hope that the tall bloke with the curly hair is still working there this year! Nothing says customer service like laughing at my hangover.
