Yeah, I'm sorry. We had a complaint and couldn't really argue. I hope you can find a good alternative use for the painting. Maybe we could have a painting swap instead?

Really? Who would complain about a mix-tape CD swap? Is it 'The Man' and his pesky copyright concerns?

blimey, that's petty if someone's complained about that. might actually do one now.

here's a thing maybe if people fancy it. if you're coming to the anorak meet up on the Saturday at 12:30 at the signal box, and if not why not, WOULDN'T IT BE A SHAME IF YOU BOUGHT SOME KIND OF MIXED CD WITH YOU AND THEN MAYBE IT ENDED UP GETTING SWAPPED. just you know like completely independently of indietracks, just as mates and that on the down low without the feds being aware.

When the people are being beaten with a stick, they are not much happier if it is called 'the People's Stick.'

I've never joined in with the mix cd swap previously mostly because I've been too bloody idle to make one but the notion that somebody has complained and that's put a stop to it has made me really sad... I don't understand (and team indietracks shouldn't feel they have to respond to this, they are acting in good faith, I totally appreciate that, my post isn't aimed at them) what's compelled somebody to complain... nobody will be gaining anything here but another mix and then the very likely possibility that this will lead them on to yet more bands and more music, which seems like nothing but a good thing... people don't swap whole lps, they're mix cds, lots of songs, a whole world of possibilities... just like the mix tapes of yore that created and galvanised whole scenes... I can see records on my shelf and remember the very tape and the very person who made that tape where I first heard a song off that record, I can remember that giddy hungry feeling of having to find that record, the tapes were catalysts for that... I figured the cd mix swap was other people just following that same process, having those same feelings, that same ripple effect...

I've no idea if the person who complained posts here on anorak but I'm intrigued to know their reasons... are they even attending the festival?

I'd hope if they did post here they could explain... I'd hope they'd get a fair hearing... I'm very simply banjaxed by this turn of events

absolutely banjaxed

There's a couple of tweets out there that look to me like the complaint, if anyone's that fussed to look.

Totally correct in law, but totally lacking in perspective. A real shame one person has to spoil it.

But I completely appreciate it's one thing for a paying punter to say that, another altogether for the organisers to argue the toss over it; so I guess it had to go.

12noon at the signal box! (for those going to see the 10p Mixes on the train at 12:30, anyway)

But that aside: yes, what a shame that would be. What a crying shame.

I've got a couple of singles by the alleged complainer. Anyone want to borrow them?

Posting here really just to concur with every word of this. I suspect I wouldn't have had time to participate but I'm also very, very surprised that somebody would have complained and I'd also like to hear their reasons for doing so. I hope they were, at the very least, civil to you, Indietracks bods. <3

The thing is of course I suppose mixtapes/CDs/whatever are, inherently, illegal, but isn't it sad to think that something which has been a really important part of the indie scene from the start just isn't compatible with modern life and law any more?

EDIT: just to note - I noticed on Facebook that a group of people were already arranging a mass alternative swap (themed around, I believe, 'Indie Dogs In Space'), but the link appears to have gone dead now - not sure if anyone here was involved in that.

There's a way around this folks, and it's as modern as the electronic toaster! Let's all make patchwork quilts with download codes attached to them and swap them at bedtime.

When's the next series of Dragon's Den being filmed?

I love this idea. I'm seriously tempted to do this if I get time. I might make several.

I'm likely to do some mix CDs to listen to in the car, one might fall out of my pocket on the site, my pockets are rubbish like that, sort of just inside the shed, opposite the bar, ish.

I was wondering whether I had the time or the energy to make a mix this week but I sure as hell will now!
Found some comments on twitter but would love to hear the guys reasoning.

Indie dogs from space still lives! We're still on facebook but think it might be invite only - however all welcome! We can change the event if lots of people want to join it or just meet us at 12:30 on Saturday at the train bar with your mix CD to discuss the likelihood of anyone at indietracks not purchasing the music they love. check #indiespacedogs on twitter for any changes of plans.

I wouldn't be at Indietracks if it hadn't been for a mixtape. I wouldn't be on this forum if it hadn't been for a mixtape. I wouldn't have a massive proportion of my record collection if it hadn't been for a mixtape. I wouldn't have written the songs I have if it hadn't been for a mixtape. I wouldn't have the friends I have if it hadn't been for a mixtape. I wouldn't have the life I have if it hadn't been for a mixtape. The mixtape that I was given in 1997 with 'What Can I Say To Change Your Heart?' by Trembling Blue Stars nestling at the end of side 2. The mixtape that inspired me to search out more by that band, and the band they originated from. And then the label that band were on. And then labels that inspired and were inspired by that label. I went out to gigs by those bands, got to know some of them, played their music to the people I care about, and shared a stage with them. I took trains to strange places as the result of a mixtape, scoured maps for clues as the result of a mixtape, cried, laughed, got drunk and fell in love as the result of a mixtape.

I'm not just going to bring one CD with me now - I'm bringing a carload.
