i completely failed to make it to this and am thoroughly disappointed in myself. i think i was tucking into a sainsburys mega brunch at the time. i'm particularly annoyed for failing to get to chat to carys ALL WEEKEND, too. i do believe i met bulgariandisco on a separate occasion, so at least i haven't gone a whole weekend without meeting any new anorakers :)

I should probably make some sort of effort to be a little less coarse when meeting people for the first time, no?

[Not to self: do not use the word 'jizz' in your first conversation with anyone]

Sorry I didn't get to meet you gc. I saw your name badge in the shed a little later on and was going to congratulate you on the Henderson's Relish T shirt you were sporting, but you vanished into the throng before I managed to.
No worries, o bassist without portfolio. I doubt it's the last time we'll ever be under the same roof or tent in the name of indiepop at the same time!

London Popfest a likely outing for you? I'm determined not to miss out in 2012 having had to jib at the eleventh hour last year owing to a job interview. And that holds regardless of whether or not the mighty Humousexual are booked once again. Yes.

The Hendies t-shirt was an unexpected (to me, at least) people magnet that day - it's touching how many people regard this none-more-intrinsically-Sheffield product so fondly. Three enquirers wanted to know where they could get the same shirt as they had it in mind as a Christmas present for their nearests and dearests, whilst Ed from Just Handshakes (We're British) found me in the tent during PYT's splendid set and eulogised about Hendersons' marketing strategies.

I then bitterly reflected that I couldn't resupply on Hendies as I've been hand-luggage only this time. Before catching my train to Stansted this morning I did check masochistically if they stock it at the Alfreton Tesco, but they don't, which is good as now I don't feel like I am missing out.airly quickly allayed. Or maybe it was just me who worried about that in the first place. It's me nerves, dear.
Would it help next year if I doused myself in Hendies instead of Ambre Solaire, and just let people lap it off me? :-)

It was nice to meet tweetotal, graysonscolumn, tonieeee and jayen_aitch though... and I'm sure I met other folks too, but those are the guys I'm pretty sure I hadn't met before. Next year we should properly do name badges and stuff though - props to graysonscolumn for his, by the way.

Awww, very kind of you, Carys! I'm just amazed it came out looking even half as C86-ish as it did, given it was a quickie job with the pencil crayons over breakfast. It's still on the desk next to this 'ere laptop as I type this, albeit looking a bit forlorn now - nothing I can't shove through the scanner and print onto slightly thicker paper for next year, though. :-)

Big yays to all the folk I met at the meet-up for the first time - Kate, Julieocean, Tweetotal, Bulgarian Disco, Carys, Northernlight, johnkell, etc.

Apologies to anyone else I'm bound to have missed off that list, which is absolutely not a slight on you but absolutely is one on the shortcomings of this proto-senile get's failing memory. I'm rubbish, me.

Big yays also to Trev and BenH - two folk who weren't (AFAIA) at the meet-up, but whom I met having bumped into meet-up people again later during the course of the weekend. Fine fellows both.

Heh-heh, I'd simply have to put it down to it being one of those very early televisual experiences which, for whatever reason, stuck better than others! I was only about seven and a half when Tiswas was cancelled, yet having dated certain sketches that I still remember from first time around I must have been watching very attentively from the age of six, if not earlier, i.e.

Taken as a whole, Tiswas footage makes for very eye-opening viewing on many levels 30 years on. For a show aimed mostly at kids (notwithstanding some of Sally James' outfits), the cleverer jokes were pretty clever ("What's a pas de deux?" "I think it's a father of twins", etc.), but occasionally there'd be routines that were at the least ill-advised and at the worst racist. Clive Webb's appalling Chinese magician, billed on occasion as "The Chink in the Curtain", particularly stands out as something you'd never have seen on Going Live.

Given the reams of cartoons I used to draw back then of kids and (fairly anthropomorphic) cats staging interminable pie-fights, though, I'd surmise at this remove that it was the aggressive (but often superbly choreographed) slapstick which left the most lasting impression. That has never translated into any particular desire to participate in such events myself, however, despite having been a member of the Tiswas Online web forum since 2005 and having written the odd sketch for the "Tiswas Nights" that that forum has put on at the Horseshoe in Wellingborough.

Per Tiswas Online and sort of dragging things back to the Anorak meet-up, I wonder if Northernlight ever got in touch with that forum to see if anyone had a recording of the episode of Tiswas he told me his brother made an appearance on? The older the show, the less chance there is, as ATV didn't keep very many copies of the 300-odd episodes for posterity, but you never know.

This has to become a regular thing surely!
I reckon so, aye. And maybe not just at Indietracks. With folk from all over the land potentially in attendance, what enthusiasm for something like an Anorak curry and pint at some point during London Popfest, for example?

I'll definitely come and say hello to everyone if this goes ahead this year. Always nice to meet new people. Even if it is slightly intimidating, as everyone inevitably looks way cooler than you.

You've clearly never met a Come Again DJ.

Everyone knows DJs are automatically super cool, whether they look it or not.

And yes, I'll be there again. Maybe I'll make a name badge this year.

I'd definitely be up for this again.

I've just noticed the 10p Mixes are playing on the train at 12:30 though (unlike last year, when there were no bands that early), and I imagine I'm not alone in wanting to see them - could we make it 12noon for a hello at the signal box, even if it's only brief?

This sounds like a very sensible suggestion. If we're agreed on 12 maybe someone needs to change the title of the thread to Anorak meet-up at Indietracks: Saturday 12:00, signal box. Or maybe we should start a new thread.
