I've just been sent this information about the works at Nottingham Station this summer. It might be useful to anyone travelling to Indietracks by train this year . . .

East Midlands Trains - Nottingham Resignalling Saturday 20 July – Sunday 25 August inclusive.

Alternative transport options for passengers where trains will not operate

In Summer 2013, Network Rail will be undertaking major signalling works in and around Nottingham station. This will cause significant changes to your normal journey, as most train services will not be able to call at Nottingham station. Details of alternative services are shown in this document.

There will be no trains arriving or departing Nottingham station to regular destinations including London, Leicester, Derby, Birmingham, Sheffield, Worksop, Mansfield and Matlock from Saturday 20 July through to Sunday 25 August 2013.

On certain days there will be limited services leaving Nottingham station to Newark (for Lincoln) and Grantham (for Skegness).

Arrangements for Travelling to/from Nottingham Saturday 20 July through to Sunday 25 August 2013.

Nottingham to/from East Midlands Parkway, Leicester, London and the South:

East Midlands Trains will be providing 7 bus services per hour between Nottingham and East Midlands Parkway Train services will operate between East Midlands Parkway and London (calling at intermediate stations.)

Nottingham to/from Birmingham, the West Midlands, Wales & the South West:
East Midlands Trains will be providing 4 non-stop bus services per hour between Nottingham and Derby. Train services will operate between Birmingham and Derby (calling at intermediate stations.)

Nottingham to/from Sheffield, Manchester & Liverpool: (Norwich to Liverpool Line)
East Midlands Trains will be providing 7 bus services per hour between Nottingham and East Midlands Parkway. Train services will pick up/drop off at East Midlands Parkway instead of Nottingham on this route. All other stations will be served as per the normal timetable.

Nottingham to/from East Midlands Parkway, Peterborough, Ely, Norwich & East Anglia: (Liverpool to Norwich Line)
East Midlands Trains will be providing 7 bus services per hour between Nottingham and East Midlands Parkway.
Train services will pick up/drop off at East Midlands Parkway instead of Nottingham on this route. All other stations will be served as per the normal timetable.

Nottingham to/from Duffield, Belper, Ambergate, Whatstandwell, Cromford, Matlock Bath & Matlock:
East Midlands Trains will be providing 4 bus services per hour between Nottingham and Derby. Train services will operate between Derby and Duffield, Belper, Ambergate, Whatstandwell, Cromford, Matlock Bath & Matlock.

Nottingham to/from Beeston, Attenborough, Long Eaton & Spondon:
East Midlands Trains will be providing 3 bus services per hour between Nottingham and Beeston. Train services will operate between Beeston, Attenborough, Long Eaton & Spondon.

Nottingham to/from Bulwell, Hucknall, Newstead, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sutton Parkway, Mansfield, Mansfield Woodhouse, Shirebrook, Langwith-Whaley-Thorns, Creswell, Whitwell & Worksop: (Robin Hood Line)
East Midlands Trains will be providing 3 bus services per hour between Nottingham and Mansfield and 1 bus service an hour between Mansfield and Worksop.
No trains will operate on this route, so passengers should use these rail replacement services to travel.

Nottingham to/from Barrow Upon Soar, Sileby & Syston: (Ivanhoe Line)
East Midlands Trains will be providing 7 bus services per hour between Nottingham and East Midlands Parkway. Train services on the Ivanhoe Line will operate between Loughborough and Leicester (calling at intermediate stations.) Passengers should travel by train from East Midlands Parkway to Loughborough and change on to these train services.

Nottingham to/from Newark Castle, Collingham, Swinderby, Hykeham, Lincoln, Market Rasen, Barnetby, Habrough, Grimsby Town & Cleethorpes:
East Midlands Trains will be providing 2 bus services per hour between Nottingham and Newark Castle. Train services will operate between Newark Castle and Cleethorpes/Grimsby (calling at Intermediate stations)
Between 10 – 23 August this service will operate as a train service to/from Nottingham during the day and into early evening.

Nottingham to/from Carlton, Burton Joyce, Lowdham, Thurgarton, Bleasby, Fiskerton, Rolleston, Newark Castle:
East Midlands Trains will be providing 1 bus services per hour between Nottingham and Newark Castle stopping at Carlton, Burton Joyce, Lowdham, Thurgarton, Bleasby, Fiskerton, Rolleston, Newark Castle. Between 10 – 23 August this service will operate as a train service to/from Nottingham during the day and into early evening.

Nottingham to/from Grantham, Ancaster, Rauceby, Sleaford, Heckington, Swineshead, Hubberts Bridge, Boston, Thorpe Culvert, Wainfleet, Havenhouse & Skegness:
East Midlands Trains will be providing 2 bus services per hour between Nottingham and Grantham. Train services will operate between Grantham and Skegness (calling at Intermediate stations.) Between 20 - 28 July and 10 – 23 August this service will operate as a train service to/from Nottingham during the day and into early evening.

Nottingham to/from Netherfield, Radcliffe, Bingham, Aslockton, Elton & Orston, Bottesford & Grantham:
East Midlands Trains will be providing 1 bus services per hour between Nottingham and Grantham stopping at Netherfield, Radcliffe, Bingham, Aslockton, Elton & Orston, Bottesford & Grantham. Between 20 - 28 July and 10 – 23 August this service will operate as a train service to/from Nottingham during the day and into early evening.

Rail Replacement buses that operate from Nottingham will pick up/drop off in streets close to the station. These will be signposted clearly and staff will be on hand throughout to guide you to and from buses.
If you currently connect at Nottingham from places like Derby and Leicester to get to Lincoln and Skegness, buses will operate from East Midlands Parkway to Newark Castle (for trains to Lincoln) and Grantham (for trains to Skegness)

In our case we travel from London Luton Airport to Derby (go and back). I think this is not a problem in this case.

Is there a train straight from Luton to Derby? Last year I had to go to London St. Pancras, if I could travel to derby from Luton and back I'd save some time.

Thanks for sharing all this. We put some short advice on the Indietracks blog yesterday. Basically, we'd advise people to travel via Derby where possible, and use Transport Direct to plan journeys in advance:
