La Casa Azul
The Deirdres
ballboy
Moustache of Insanity
Helen Love

I might join Anorak under a pseudonym to add: MJ & Vlads, The Middle Ones, Parallelograms, Wimpshake, Just Joans, The Smittens. MY alter-ego wouldn;t quite understand the rules.
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

I've taken Indietracks' propensity to surprise me pretty much every year with something amazing that I'd never come across previously as its defining principle. Hence:

1) La Casa Azul
2) Haiku Salut
3) Stars of Aviation
4) Red Pony Clock
5) KateGoes

Other interpretations are all absolutely fine and lovely and just as valid also.

Current leader board...

Post by linus » Thu Feb 27, 2014 12:08

well, the votes have literally been pouring in, we've been deluged with up to literally 18 votes- phew!- testament to anorak's unyielding perennial appeal to the massed ranks of the decisive and opinionated indiepop community, a community that will not be silenced, that will demand to be heard, a community that once again has proved it responds to the clarion call of one of it's most beloved and highly regarded tastemaker/curators when he- and yes unapologetically he is a he- stands proud, naked and unabashed upon the ramparts of castle twee and roars, 'bring me your favourite, most beloved band of Indietracks past and we will celebrate them and anoint them most good in a poll that I will work out on a spreadsheet of microsoft excel in my own time selflessly'

so beloved is this strange festival of pop guitar indie and train engine steam we can only guess at the sheer pride and vanity the winning band or solo artiste (but it will be a band, let's face it) will bathe and luxuriate in once the final results are given.

I can't believe anyone remains in the indiepop community still to vote (I mean, an incredible 18 people have voted that's practically everybody) but should you still be doing your workings out there's loads of time left yet to cast your votes (closing date is saturday 5th april)

this is how it all looks as of midday, 27th february:

1. The Smittens
2. Pocketbooks
3. La Casa Azul
4. The Just Joans
5. The Deirdres
6. Manhattan Love Suicides
7. Allo Darlin'
8. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
9. Flowers
10. ballboy, MJ Hibbett & The Validators
11. Blanche Hudson Weekend, Helen Love
12. The June Brides, The Middle Ones, T.O.Y.S, Vacciones
13. Fever Dream, Haiku Salut, Joanna Gruesome, Parallelograms, Rose Melberg, Sock Puppets, Sweet Nothings
14. Colour Me Wednesday, Fireworks, Go Sailor, Heroes of the Mexican Independence Movement, Magic Theatre, Stars of Aviation
15. Help Stamp Out Loneliness, Moustache of Insanity, Red Pony Clock, Specific Heats, Teenage Fanclub, Veronica Falls
16. Brilliant Corners, KateGoes, Lovely Eggs, The Loves, Sarandon, Slow Down Tallahassee, The Wedding Present
17. frozy, Velodrome 2000

remember the more people that vote, the more misery for me counting it all up

you've every reason to vote

This momentous poll ends this Saturday (5th April), no votes cast after the 5th April will be included... if you haven't voted, VOTE NOW!

Can't believe how many women are spitting on the memory of the suffragette movement by not voting, I guess it's because they lead busy lives, but seriously what could be more important than this?

Seriously

Not sure if I'm allowed to vote as a member of Team Indietracks, but if I am then my bands are:

1. Pocketbooks
2. Allo Darlin'
3. La Casa Azul
4. Teenage Fanclub
5. Stars of Aviation/ The Magic Theatre - joint fifth

I've defined it as some of my personal favourite ever Indietracks moments.

Arrgh, this is so tricky!

I'm going for the bands that have consistently provided those moments over the whole history of 'tracks and for that, there can only be 5.

1. Pocketbooks
2. Just Joans
3.The various incarnations of Mr Hibbett (plus friends)
4. Ballboy
5. The Deirdres

With an honorable mention to The Smittens if there was a 6 (so more than 5)
and that snare drum, that drum roll
means we've got a winner

POLL CLOSED

Literally over 20 people voted... a typically huge response on what is the world's biggest, brightest, best-loved, most active indiepop community board

The results have been counted, checked and verified and we can reveal 'The definitive Indietracks band' (whatever that might mean) is (in reverse order):

20th) frozy, Velodrome 2000
19th) Kate Goes, The Lovely Eggs, The Loves, Sarandon, Slow Down Tallahassee, Standard Fare, The Wedding Present, Young Romance
18th) Help Stamp Out Loneliness, Moustache of Insanity, Pete Green, Red Pony Clock, The Specific Heats, The Spook School, Veronica Falls, White Town
17th) Colour Me Wednesday, The Fireworks, Go Sailor, Heroes of the Mexican Independence Movement
16th) The Magic Theatre, The Stars of Aviation
15th) The Brilliant Corners, Fever Dream, Joanna Gruesome, Rose Melberg, Sock Puppets, The Sweet Nothings, Teenage Fanclub
14th) The June Brides, The Middle Ones, The Parallelograms, TOYS, Vacciones
13th) The Blanche Hudson Weekend, Helen Love
12th) Haiku Salut
11th) Flowers
10th) The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
9th) MJ Hibbett & The Validators
8th) The Manhattan Love Suicides
7th) The Just Joans
6th) Ballboy
5th) La Casa Azul
4th) Allo Darlin'
3rd) The Deirdres
2nd) Pocketbooks
1st) The Smittens

The Smittens are the winners! And- given the fates of the second and third bands in this poll- must now split up, as is tradition... congratulations!

In terms of numbers of votes cast (i.e, giving every vote 1 pt rather than weighting the scores from first = 5pts to fifth = 1pt, which was the way the poll was counted) the order is slightly altered:

1) The Smittens/Allo Darlin' (11 votes)
2) The Just Joans (10 votes)
3) Pocketbooks (9 votes)
4) The Deirdres/Ballboy (7 votes)
5) La Casa Azul (5 votes)
6) MJ Hibbett & The Validators (4 votes)
7) Helen Love/The Manhattan Love Suicides/The Pains of Being Pure at Heart/The Parallelograms (3 votes)
8) The Blanche Hudson Weekend/The Brilliant Corners/Fever Dream/Flowers/Haiku Salut/The Magic Theatre/Stars of Aviation/Teenage Fanclub (2 votes)
9) Everybody else (1 vote)

Fascinating, I'm sure... I'm relieved it was only 20+ people voted because any more would've been a right chore doing all the counting and what not

But this is neither conclusive or representative of very much other than what about 25 people can remember at a given time of so many years of Indietracks within the narrow parameters of 'vote for five bands in a specific order'... but I suppose it passed the time

Ho hum...

Did Allo Darlin not make the "proper" poll results or, attempting to put it nicely, have you made a cockup?
