Our festival passes have nearly sold out. If you're wanting one, we suggest you purchase one asap. Presale tickets are starting to also fly, so get those too!

SFPopfest is extremely saddened to announce that Joel Gibb of The Hidden Cameras will be unable to play this Sunday's show at Café du Nord. A last minute unexpected visa problem arose making his travel not possible. San Francisco's finest, The Bottecillis, will now be headlining the Sunday show. The Bottecillis recently recorded a lovely Daytrotter session (http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/botticelli ... 37499.html) and dazzled everyone at SXSW. They're surely San Francisco's best power pop band and are gracious enough to share their relaxing rhythms with SFPopfest.

Oh no! That seems to often happen to dear Joel/Hidden Cameras. At one of their last shows booked in Chicago (December 2007?), they also got stopped at the Canada/U.S. border the day of the show and were turned away for whatever reasons so they didn't make it. :-(

So, I feel silly writing this, but since no one else I know is really into indiepop, I'll be at popfest by my lonesome. It's boring to stand around clubs by yourself, so does anyone want to meet up? It'd be nice to meet some other anorak folks...

Tullycraft were lotsa fun, I'm sure if yr a fan you would've loved it, not sure about indietracks, it seemed very deffo their last show, well until they get bored again!

Well that was the most fun I've had in a LONG time! Favourites of the weekend: Tullycraft, Northern Portrait, The Hot Toddies, Still Flyin', Suburban Kids, The Smittens and Springfactory.

Oh and Gordon Ballboy's hilarious drunken rant while announcing the raffle: I love BOOK! All other books can F*** Off!

It's been ace meeting so many lovely people, and I can't wait to come to San Fancisco again next year!

Oh and let's not forget the shopping cart surfer during Let's Whisper's set! Did anyone manage to get that on video?

so. exhausted.
= )

just flew back into los angeles last night. happy to be home but missing the popfest weekend already. let's see if i can gather some thoughts in a semi-coherent manner.

day #1 (rickshaw): skwbn stole the show (sorry pelle). it was the first night, they had a full band, energy levels were high (both crowd and band) and dancing was done. fantastic.

day #2 (annie's social club): exhaustion sets in. LONG show. i think the hot toddies ended their set around 1:20am or something like that, and for this old man that's WAY past bedtime! not even sure the scheduled indiepop dancing took place as it looked like the place cleared out rather quickly. anyhow... another fun night all the same. ballboy were fab... lots of gordon stories. enjoyed my first time seeing fellow angelenos the tartans live (despite injuries and illnesses)... hot toddies were cute. very all girl summer fun band meets thee headcoatees (or something like that). was VERY happy to return to my hotel room sometime after 2am, i must say.

day #3 (house of shields - day show): GREAT venue. tiny, but lovely. old bar, bands playing in the loft. bartender made fantastic margaritas. discovery of the day had to be sourpatch, a 3-girl, 1-boy combo that were SOOOOO tiger trap i couldn't stand it (in a good way). bought their cd - doesn't do them justice - but WOW. i just loved them. enjoyed champagne riot... a bit karaoke, you know (hopefully that doesn't sound insulting. i love the 'paris and i' ep but he really just sang over his recordings). entertaining all the same. would've loved to maybe have heard some live guitar over it, however. what else? a fairly short closing set from gregory webster which was lovely. and another margarita.

day #3 (rickshaw - night show): i've kinda labeled this one 'smiths night' as a couple of the bands seemed to take more than a little inspiration from morrissey and marr. did i mention that i'm not a big smiths fan yet? hehe. anyhow... some surprises here. i REALLY enjoyed northern portrait! not sure if i like them on record yet, but they were just fantastic live. great sound, charming... sold! and the smittens (who i initially dismissed as being too cutesy) were GREAT. i bought their new cd. i just loved their set. tullycraft set was good if a little long (maybe it was just me... they went on last and i was ready for bed). but they played all their hits and even had a bit of a stage invasion from various smittens and others assorted folk.

day #4 (dolores park - day show): can we have more shows in parks? this was one of my favorites. loved the setting, loved getting out of the venues, loved the line-up. land of ill earthquakes opened with a fab set filled with toy pianos, melodicas, bells, xylophones, horns and lovely harmonies. a fantastic way to start the day. and pocketbooks! i nearly spit out my soda (with vodka) when i heard "since yesterday" start up (lovelovelove strawberry switchblade/rose mcdowall). have they recorded/released this? i would love to hear a proper studio recording! let's whisper did a lovely set, but unfortunately i totally missed that shopping cart surfer. heard the rattle of his cart rolling down the hill but didn't look in time. drat! another lovely set from gregory (and i must also mention apple orchard and antarctica takes it... i really did enjoy both performances). oh, and was it true that jonathan richman was watching the show with his dog? someone please confirm! i've heard rumors and have also heard that some were sneaking photos. please post!

day #4 (cafe du nord - night show): love this venue, but by this point just about all my energy was spent. no standing around for me. i found a chair and parked my behind on it for the entire show. really enjoyed the performances from both cheap red and birds of california. it was the cutest thing seeing stew, jen and little tallulah dancing and singing during that last cheap red song. let's see, what else? LOVED seeing dear nora. was kinda hoping it would be a full-band set but katey can hold her own. she's so cute. "frozen border" gets me every time. hmmm... and a nice set from eux autres to end the festivities. i didn't stay around for the botecillis i'm afraid to say. too tired, and a little sad joel from the hidden cameras canceled. bah!

anyhow... sorry for my ramblings here. i'm still recovering. but thanks to the bands and the sf popfest crew! hope it happens again next year.

and let's get a los angeles popfest together, too! anyone, anyone?
