Is it just me, or is "cellophane" an absolutely fantastic song ?!
Go on, have another listen and let it get under your skin.
And I can hear a Passions influence into the new Help Stamp out Loneliness songs, which can never be a bad thing.

Maybe my ears need syringing because, after seeing them a couple of times now, I just can't hear that at present. Still each to their own and good luck to them.

i like her voice, she sounds like a cross between kate from the long blondes & nico.

Yes there is a Nico-esque quality to the vocals.
They are certainly different which is great. I think we need a bit more variety on the indiepop scene.
It can't all be C86 aping tweeness (much as I like that too).

When I saw them at London Popfest the Nico-esque vocals initially freaked me out as I was a big fan of LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS but once I had told myself this is a totally different band I enjoyed them & the 'Torvill & Dean' 7" is great.
One thing that we've known from the start
Deep down inside, we're punk rockers at heart

Well yes, I have to admit I had to get used to the vocals at first too, cause I think the first songs they had on their myspace page were sung by someone else (they had a lovely Field Mice cover too) with a lighter tone of voice, but the new girl can certainly sing and it turns them into a whole different band, closer in sound to eighties bands like the Passions and the Au Pairs which is great.
Their new singer is also seriously glamorous, which adds a touch of glitter to the proceedings which I like a lot !

Well Dee's other band are playing London tonight if anyone wants to see her do her Northern Irish Nico thing. HSOL play The Night and Day cafe in Manchester on Saturday 21st March and then Hamburg on Friday 27th March. Hamburg is bloody great for gigs and music. Plus they opted out of the C86 treaty in the early nineties, so people aren't bothered when a band has a singer who doesn't conform to the aural equivalent of paint drying. I love the Germans. Torvill & Dean is available now on limited 7" from the Papillons Noirs website and some good record shops. 2nd 7" out soon on WIAIWYA. As John said.

I'd love to get this lot for my gig on May 22 in London.
I have emailed them but got no response so far.

Cellophane is wonderful.
It was easy, it was cheap, go and do it!

It's the vocals I like most about the band. Not that the music isn't great, as well. It's just, for me, the recent single doesn't match their live performances - but it's still good. I'd said as much in the review I did a few days back - http://lostmusic.co.uk/blog/2009/03/07/ ... ons-noire/
not really here

Me too. I actively like the vocals - it's one of the things that makes the band interesting and distinctive, plus Dee is very clearly a star.

Ooooh, I already put in my order with Rough Trade some weeks ago.
I don't want to miss out on the fantastic "cellophane" on a shiny little 7". It is such a great song !
I just don't ever seem to tire of it.
How could I ever doubt this band (cause I admit when I first saw them play live I wasn't sure ... my mistake ... I was probably having an off day - when I saw them next at the London popfest, I realized there was something rather great there).
