It was like a cross between Pretty in Pink and The Singing Detective...
(and felt a tiny bit cheated over the 'live gig' after the screening - more than 5 songs would have been nice!)
"I don't know who you're talking about..."

Can't work out if that means it's any good or not.

That makes it sound like the best film ever. I fear the reality is some distance away.

Newer song - for anyone who's ever listened to Belle and Sebastian and caught themselves thinking, 'It's okay, but what it could really do with is being about seven minutes long with a keytar solo in the middle'. And as if by magic...

I saw them play this last week in Miami. The video here really makes the song look really sad and ridiculous, but I'm pretty sure drunk me really enjoyed that keytar (as drunk me often does).

I think the copious amounts of some cinnamon "whiskey" and the giddiness of seeing them with a bunch of people who were ridiculously excited after a 20 year wait made every song great fun. And I've seen them a bunch of times over the past 16 or so years, but the 2 Florida shows were for sure the best I've ever seen them.

I'm really enjoying this song. I think the performance picks up as it goes along - it feels a bit weedy at first, but comes into it's own (it's a couple of minutes too long though). The keytar's clearly just for show - not nearly as distinctive as the stylophone was, he's just pissing about really.

It's funny, 'cos I was saying a while back in the thread that I was afraid the new stuff would sound like bad late period Abba, but it's more like good late Abba - there's a touch of 'Voulez Vous' about this, rather than the expected 'Head Over Heels'[/notcool].

Maybe I'm just a B+S ultra-loyalist who's faith hasn't quite been broken by 'Write About Love', but I'm really starting to look forward to 'Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance' now. Great title as well!

Is it just me or are B&S's album covers just getting shitter and shitter?

Edit: Sorry Andy, I didn't see your initial comment. It's just me then! ;-)

Probably not!

It just emphasises really that they're not the same band they were 15 years ago. It's no 'Fold your Hands...', which is my favourite sleeve, but I'd say this was a definite improvement on 'bored girl looking out the window' from last time.

I like that this is a bit daft, with a touch of sci-fi as well. I can see why people are going to hate it though!

The cover does look pretty daft, but maybe there are further images on the inner sleeve that'll give a bit of context.

Is that the game of thrones girl from the movie?

Mrs H has moved to full blown hatred of B and S. I've moved to indifference.

I just read that the new album is supposed to be all synthy and Europop and suddenly I'm very interested in it.
