I suppose this is the most sensible place to discuss the new Just Joans/Smittens split single then. I haven't even listened to it in its entirety yet, but it's pretty great is it not. I'm chuffed enough that two of my favourite bands like and know each other without them going and covering and releasing each others songs. The joy of those New Englanders singing about buckfast and kappa tracksuits won't fade any time soon either.

I am genuinely a little distraught to have missed the joining of forces for 'What Do We Do Now' at indietracks, but I did at least manage to see The Smittens earlier in the year in New York even if I haven't managed the significantly shorter journey to see the Joans in Glasgow. But hopefully I will at some point since 'Love and Other Hideous Accidents' is still my very favourite thing to have been released this year.

Oh, in case you were wondering - I don't think the 7" is physically available yet, but I got sent the download link when I pre-ordered.

I'm not rubbing it in but I got the single at t'tracks and it may just be the most cherishable thing

I didn't get them (the just joans) the first time I heard them but after last year's 'tracks I couldn't deny what a fucking ace turn they are and at this year's festival they were so notable by their (almost) absence... if you get my meaning

I'm fucking waffling... it's the post-indietracks thing: enthuse/gush/waffle/collapse/repeat from the beginning

I've just listened to all the WeePop! mp3s and I love virtually all of them. I'm going to buy everything tomorrow. Everything.

I just worked out how to do it on my phone. 8 CDs/records for £30. I'd pay more.

The Just Joans/Smittens split single is a thing of loveliness. I strongly suggest you buy it if you haven't already...

It was on my impulsive midnight buying spree on my night shift last night. Can't wait.

I've been really enjoying the Moustache of Inasanity ep lately, too! I wish I could have seen them on the train at indietracks (but our set was at the same time). Now I know I have to make it back over there so I can see them live - or we'll have to import them over here!

Also love the new allo' darlin' single! yow!

and that outro on the joan's g+p with the fizz and chit chat! yow!

I couldn't agree more. I have been enjoying this single so much - it is fab!

I don't know why but the Just Joans main man's singing reminds me a little bit of Bob Dylan (I mean that as a compliment by the way). I think it's something to do with the way he phrases his words. Like the way he is singing isn't just an accident. Or something like that anyway...

My weePOP! package arrived today. My god it's beautiful, it's clearly a labour of love. And I haven't seen a refresher bar for ages!

The music is mighty fine too. I'm having to invest in an external CD drive as my pesky Macbook won't play the little CDs. Ebay ahoy.

You could also email Camila at Weepop and let her know about your mac dilemma...and if you're nice about it she'll send you the mp3's of the CD's you've bought :)

Thanks Nik. I knew they did that with their vinyl releases, but didn't know if they did with the CDs. I managed to get the vinyl onto the computer/iPod no probs. I may drop Camila a line again (I already emailed to say thanks for the refresher bar!). I might just get the CD drive anyway incase I get more 3" CD-Rs.

an external cd drive is always useful, but if being able to play/ rip 3" discs is your main or only motivation for getting one, it would be cheaper to consider buying an adapter instead.

You know, I was asking myself the other day why these didn't exist. Of course I didn't check to see if they did in fact exist.

Does anyone have any experience using them in slot loading drives? The little tabs don't get caught or anything?

i find using them to be slightly nervewracking, but the discs clip in snugly, it's all flat, and i've never had a problem at all (my sony pc has a slot-loading drive & came with an adapter -- they're strangely hard to find on the internet). that said, i have an external drive myself, as i used to have a 3" cd-r label & it would have been far too much hassle to use the adapter each time i burned a disc.

I got one of those CD adapter things free with a CD single of 'Simon Smith & His Amazing Dancing Bear'.
