happy happy birthday to me records

Post by gloom button » Tue Oct 02, 2007 12:05

this is my new favourite record label. they release the magnificent Bunnygrunt, Cars Can Be Blue, Ex-E6ers High Water Marks and M Coast, Elekibass and the Smittens.

they have tshirts that say 'twee as satan'. here is part of the design.

i like them a lot.
the trouble with personalities, they're too wrapped up in style
it's too personal; they're in love with their own guile

Still no sign of the singles club yet though. Thought some of their latest releases have been a tad disappointing. I expected more from patience Please. What's that High Watermarks one like. It's on my ever increasing pile.

The Bunnygrunt popshows in Nottingham and Sheffield - especially Nottingham - were some of the most thrilling poprockandrollshows I can remember.....

There is news about the singles club on the HHBTM site linked above.
I am shipping the clubs to subscribers the week after CMJ. With CMJ coming up and traveling there and back, it's going to be really tough to get them all out in the mail prior, so I'm going to ship them in 3 seperate trips. Day 1 all overseas and Canada singles clubs. Day 2 the US subscribers that were among the first 150. Day 3 the US subscribers that were not in the first 150. Thanks for everyone being patient, good news is that Keith John Adams / Velcro Stars, Tullycraft / Smittens are pretty much going to be ready before 2007 is over, but will ship with either 2 or 3 more singles at once in early 2008. Also if you know anyone who wanted to subscribe to the club they need to do so ASAP. We took holds off everyone who had not sent in payment for their singles club, so we have a little over 35 clubs that can still be picked up.
CMJ is October 16-20.

Does anyone know if Bees Knees zine is still going? I have a copy from years ago and I can’t seem to find any new ones. You can get old copies through HHBTM but the website doesn’t say they’ve stopping writing it. I emailed them and got no reply. It’s definitely the poshed zine I’ve ever seen, and the thickest (non-punk) one I’ve seen.

Fishboy are my new favorite HHBTM band. They remind me of the Weakerthans and Apples in Stereo because it's bouncy and a little shouty maybe, and the song Halftime at the Proper Name Spelling Bee is really fucking cute.

We missed them at Athens Popfest because we had the schedule mixed up, and I'm really hoping they're back this year.

Anyhow, you can listen to the whole album hereYo! Fishboy! Just click on the music part.

Cars Can Be Blue have a new one coming out this year which I am very excited about.

I long to join the singles club but don't see much point since I don't own a record player.

I've considered asking someone to get me one for my birthday.

But then I think, Do I really need another method of playing music? I have a large cd collection and thousands of mp3's. Do I need to add vinyl to my shopping list too? I'm poor enough as is.

I second that

I think the nottingham show was especially great because of the balloons and because it was my birthday and because the cut-outs and horowitz played and it fucking ruled

Yeah, but I can't listen to it when I'm on the bus or walking around. Which I do a lot. Maybe when I start having disposable income again I'll start building a vinyl collection outside of the three records I have right now (all gifts) - The Smiths, The Cure, and Badly Drawn Boy.

You were at Athens Popfest? William & I have been to every one - SO much fun! Best vacation ev-ah. I have some good video from my camera of the keyboard player from Fishboy going berserk and then running off the stage, nearly hitting me.

Good times.

Yeah, and bunnygrunt rools, too and they're super nice.

I watched the No Parachute dvd again today and I love it so much. I'm thrilled they're releasing volume 2 this summer.

hhbtm cars can be blue & mega sale

Post by hhbtmike » Sat Dec 06, 2008 10:42

sorry for the spam, but figured i should let folks know about the cars can be blue lp that will go to helping them get back over to the UK. also the full story of what happened can be found here (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/21120 ... ELEASE.pdf)

Hey Folks,
It’s been a busy couple of months since the last update. We had a CMJ showcase that featured Bearsuit, Cars Can Be Blue, Forever, and long time label friends the Great Lakes. The Lolligags were to also play that show but Leslie and Eric were in a car accident that damaged the moog and totaled Eric’s car, so they had to call off going to NYC. The HHBTM head quarters moved into a bigger house in October as well, so the office is now no longer shared with the bedroom, which is super nice. Cars Can Be Blue finished a 60 date 2 month tour of the USA only to get denied entry and detained in the UK before getting shipped back home losing their airfare and having to cancel their UK tour. The Forever EP was to be released this month but it has been pushed back due to the track listing on all the artwork being incorrect, so we are in the middle of fixing that now. The Lolligags “Out of Peversity Join Hands” EP is now out. It features 5 new tracks and 2 remixes by Andy Gonzales (of Montreal & Marshmallow Coast) & Dan Geller (I am the World Trade Center & Ruby Isle). The SINGLES CLUB is still in the works with the All Girl Summer Fun Band / Cars Can Be Blue single due back from the plant any day now. The Circulatory System single is set to go to the plant first week of January followed shortly by the Love Letter Band single with the of Montreal single going in the first or second week of February. Goal is to have the club shipped out in late spring. I am running some sales for the Christmas Season (deals below), and we are doing a special PRE-ORDER for Cars Can Be Blue “All the Stuff We Do” LP (limited to 100 copies), the sleeve will be silkscreened, come with a cdr, and some more bonus goodies. All the profits from the LP will go to getting CCBB their airfare back, and to help with legal fees to get their passports and visas cleared up. The LP will is $20 in the USA (shipping for outside the USA will depend on where you are having it shipped price wise). We hope to have the LP ready to ship by the end of January. This LP will not be around very long. DEALS BELOW…..

I can attest to how great the No Parachute dvd is. It alone is worth the $10.
