There's a feature on the Guardian music blog about some of the writers' favourite albums. Whatever. But this one's about The Smell of Our Own: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicbl ... en-cameras

It reminded me that when I first got that record, I wanted to buy a hundred copies of it and leave them on buses. I was going around making people listen to 'Ban Marriage' like some kind of nutjob. Smitten beyond belief. Still am!

ah, that makes me feel better about owning nine. they're all different, though, so it's totally normal.

N89, please.

have to say that the footage of the acoustic performance made me regret missing indietracks this year.

did anyone hear the pet shop boys remix of "colour of a man"? so boring.

When I dj I usually play Breathe on it and it always gets a couple of people coming up and asking what i'm playing.

I think I re-listened to A Miracle more than 40 times since Indietracks, and I'm still shivering each time.

Just listened to the three different versions I've got here and yup, still bloody amazing. The one on Ecce Homo is almost transcendental in its messiness. *man* <3 <3

"throw silver", an excellent mecca normal cover, is on a benefit compilation for the centre for addiction & mental health in which contemporary canadian bands cover canadian songs from '85 to '95 (full version of the song is online here)

apparently this is the earliest hidden cameras video (i'd have thought scott treleaven's film for "he is the boss of me" would predate it, but the sound changes twenty seconds in so maybe they later re-edited this with the full band version of the song).

so i'm probably the last person to find this out, but joel's in a band (drumming!) with vaginal davis called tenderloin. they played in london recently and everything (not that i knew. and i call myself a hidden cameras fan? pffft)

tell me how good it is / to wake from a bad dream / and have someone there and I will tell you / how butterfly wings stay dry in the rain

wasn't super-into tenderloin ... better on paper, i thought.

"gay goth scene" just came out as a 7" on evilevil (2013 full band version b/w 2001 solo 4-track demo version)

this is the first time they've done a release like this and it totally works. surprised to much prefer the re-recorded version: the original was definitely not good enough for ecce homo. but ah, how i love the sound of that crappy drum machine!

also: new album soon.

Never really heard this band before (apart from seeing them at Indietracks a few years ago) but Liz played Ban Marriage while we were DJing last weekend and it's great! They definitely don't sound 'indiepop' to my ears though, more anti-folk or summat, but who cares about that.

Darn. I thought it was news of a new album. It's been too long since the last Hidden Cameras album.
