Singer & songwriter Davey would seem to have put up some of his new material here:

Oh, hello Rocker! Thanks for that.

What were The Experimental Pop Band like? I never got round to checking them out.

I like them - but always found them a little cold sounding. Not sure that makes sense - lacking a little soul, I guess.
not really here

I saw them at Islington Powerhouse in '88, I think. Is the Powerhouse still going?

People used to say THE BRILLIANT CORNERS were a JUNE BRIDES rip-off early on.
They sound more like the Go-Betweens to me at times. Maybe because of the vocals. They had some cracking tunes, though. Most of the songs I don't care for, but there are ones like "Friday Saturday Sunday Monday" that I love.
New Postal Blue single out now on Cloudberry Records.
There are still copies of our Road to Happiness CD-EP here.

"Growing Up Absurd" - first and best!

Only saw THE BRILLIANT CORNERS once at the West Indian Club in Southampton around 1988.
Good to see that CHESTERF!ELDS vid too!
That west indian club gig was good - still have the live bootleg I did of that one (shh!) - inspired bass playing as well - encouraged me to play better!

I think I might be the only person here who thinks Joy Ride was their best LP then? The opening two tracks - You Don't Know How Lucky You Are and Emily still sound incredible.

The Brilliant Corners/Davey Woodward/The Experimental Pop Ba

Post by dixie » Thu Oct 27, 2011 23:28

Indie Pop legend Davey Woodward plays a rare Manchester gig on Saturday 19th November 2011 at Gullivers, Oldham Street. He is playing a solo set and is likely to include the odd B Corners track (having played "Teenage", "Growing Up Absurd" and "Positively Lips" at previous gigs). He will be followed by wonderful folk-pop from Becca & The Broken Biscuits and jangle-pop from Brilliant Mind before he will front The Experimental Pop Band for a barnstorming headline set. All for just £6! it is a very intimate venue, with tickets limited to just 90 and only a handful left. e-mail dixieernill@yahoo.co.uk to secure a ticket asap. If any tickets are left, they will be £8 on the door.
