I'd like to hear this actually. Goldblade may very deliberately be a bit of a lark for all concerned, but they're lovely folk and a goshdarned entertaining live act. I likes em anyway.

Their Christmas 7" (Another Christmas at home/Merry Xmas Everybody/Teenage Christmas) finally arrived yesterday. It's a wonderful little festive thing, really.

I was just about to post that! It's ace. And that version of Teenage Christmas may just be the best thing ever for today.

Mistletoe Misadventure by The Gresham Flyers on the latest Cherryade Christmas offering is quite brilliant. Like David Cronenberg's Wife with a tune.

I've put up a few Hidden Horses songs on last.fm, free to download:

God rest you merry gentlemen
In the bleak midwinter
O Christmas tree
The holly and the ivy
O little town of Bethlehem

I'm listening to the old Xfm it's a cool cool Xmas. I have realized that (a) I love the Eels and (b) B&S's O Come, O Come Emmanuel is better than Sujan's and (c) the fannies covering Gorky's Xmas Eve is just cool.

Xmas in Japan is weird. There's no holiday, just loads of decorations everywhere and Xmas music on the radio. Thankfully, the emperor went and got born on the 23rd and we get a day off for that. I've been invited for Irish coffees and carols so that will have to do.

Here's something - the highest placed Christmas song this week is Fairytale Of New York, which I mention because it's not so many years ago that the gold standard for festive songsmithery was Slade and Wizzard, and that was very much the 'alternative' that DJs would only sneak on to look cooler. Now it and Mariah Carey are the two most famous Christmas records of all, which begs the question of whether there is something now that exists only just outside the direct mainstream in the same way when this time of year comes round. Does anyone play Just Like Christmas on daytime Radio 1?

Not too many mentions of musicals in these annals, I don't think, but I think this track off of the Billy Elliot musical soundtrack might chime with many;

The Boy Least Likely To have a new Christmas Special album.

It has the previously-released 'Little Donkey' and 'The First Snowflake' along with a slew of new tracks.

10p Mixes Christmas single - it's the song we did for A Very Cherry Christmas last year, but with electric guitars and drums and stuff. The instrumentation is still not quite close enough to sounding like Wizzard for me, but Danielle sounds lovely on it. Put a zero in the box or it's not a present!
