Ahhh! Just got an email from The Rickshaw Stop saying you guys had to cancel the SF Popfest show? I can't believe I'm missing you again. I haven't been this excited for a show in months! I'm about to ride over to my friend's house to drink some beer & on the way I will blast your brilliant CD in a desperate attempt to feel better. Wish me luck.

We're so so sorry. Our visas have been held up and there is literally nothing we could do. We could come in illegally but if and when we were caught we would never be able to come back again. The US is so tough on these things. We just feel so bad for everyone - especially the Popfest organisers. We've never had to cancel anything before - not even in Europe when everything went so wrong. It's just beyond our control and that's the really hard thing to accept. All of our flights are non-refundable so we now have to try and find some treasure. It really really sucks.

We will re-schedule though - and the shows from NYC on the 8th June will go ahead because we know we will have them in time.

I don't know how bands are going to be able to keep doing in the US because they just keep making it even more impossible than the last time.

@Elizabeth darling. Do you know roughly when your new LP will be released? It's been years since i looked forward to a new record coming out as much as I am with this one...can't wait for it. (But will have to obviously!)

Here's my review of their gig at the Bull and Gate.

Incidentally, if it's considered 'bad form' to post such links, can someone please tell me (nicely, please!) and I'll stop doing it. I'm simply trying to highlight something that some people here might be interested in (the topic, rather than anything particular I might write, or the style). I certainly don't want to annoy anyone here.

Cheers,
Colin

I don't think it's bad form at all. I love reading reviews of gigs, especially ones that I wanted to go to but couldn't. Please keep posting links here...

Hi Arthur. We have recorded about 11 songs, and we want to record another 4-5. That means the record will be out early next year, although I can say that we will be releasing a very special 7" in the summer. We have finished recording it and just need to get it pressed. That's all I'm saying!

I'd been rather hoping the album would be out this year but it's exciting to know that something will be out soon.

just saw them last night at The Mercury Lounge in NYC for the first time. Man are they really something else!, its like they turned a sweet indiepop show into a vaguely punkish atmosphere.... must be the electric ukulele.

After missing out on them when we were out west (but they weren't), we're gonna jump in the car after work and go catch them in Montreal! So happy they finally made it over! I am ready to get my dance on!
Allo Darlin' make me smile every time I see them play. Can't wait!

Well, I only got to catch six songs since the show went late and I had to catch the last bus home but what I did get to hear at the Toronto show last night was terrific. The new album should be great.

It is true about indiepop never coming to Toronto, though. A friend and I were discussing that before the show.

Sorry you missed the whole set! Toronto was awesome. We definitely want to come back.

Our next show will be with two of our favourite bands ever - THE SCHOOL and TIGERCATS. We're lucky enough to have toured with both of them so it will be a bit of a love in. Those are the best gigs!

We are also excited because we will playing this show with our old friend Greg on second guitar. He filled in on bass while Bill was on paternity leave so it'll be like the old band back together again. Sweet!

Here is a clip of Paul and I playing in Brooklyn on the weekend:

Thanks for all those North American Anoraks who came to the shows! It was a bit mindblowing x

They were fantastic at XOYO last night - probably the best I've seen them. New songs sounding really, really good - looking forward to the new album. Just hope it gets the exposure it deserves - they work so bloomin' hard!

yeah, last night was something else! so amazing. quite a few of my friends said the same thing, about it being one of the best allo darlin' gigs they've been to. the crowd were awesome with dancing/pogo-ing/moshpit/singing along! everyone was so smiley!

I can't wait to hear their version of Wu Tang Clan. It's one of my favourite Hayman songs be it from Hefner, The French or with the Secondary Modern.

..is it me or is there an incredible sadness in the the way that Liz sings her songs? even the jolly ones leave me feeling melancholy....maybe its because it's friday...

Oh and does anyone else think the singing on Darren reminds them of Amy MacDonald (terribble Scots singer) and her song "this is the life"? Again -probably just me.....but please, get back to your antipodean roots Liz!!
