slumberland is on a roll this year! i hope kid frostbite wouldn't mind my linking to the album's press page where you can stream the whole thing. well worth buying.

i really liked the two 7"s brilliant colors put out before the album (now comped on a 12" on captured tracks) & thought they were great live the one time i saw them, but the album is seriously fantastic. which was a pleasant surprise even as an existing fan.

i've seen a few blog posts saying that "absolutely anything" borrows from nena's "99 luftballons" but i reckon the killer steal is on "short sleeves at night" ... very "safety net"!

think it's going to be a toss-up for me as to whether this or the grass widow lp is my favourite album of the year. so much good bay area music right now. speaking of which, i recommend checking out mondo vision.

I stopped by Monorail on my way home today and got myself a copy! YES.

I enjoyed the singles and did look forward to hearing the album, but after I came across English Cities on the internet a few weeks ago, I knew I'd like the album a lot more. Like, it's still not exactly what you'd call over-produced, but it just better recorded and feels so much more powerful. Punchy! And as a result much more, I don't know, important? I'm really looking forward to listening to this a lot over the next few weeks!

Finally got round to getting the LP - superb stuff!
Agree with everyone who has said it's a progression/better than the singles.

can't wait to see them play again in june -- singles on make a mess & slumberland later this month, too.

(heads up anyone who missed out on the s/t 7": m.a.m. found more copies)

so, two thirds of brilliant colors are now in flesh world, who have a self-titled mini-album on la vida es un mus and an lp "the wild animals in my life" & singles on iron lung.

i wish i could link their maximum rocknroll interview from a couple of issues ago; they're a really exciting proposition.

Saw Flesh World in Norwich a couple of nights ago - really excellent, kind of like a heavier and more slashing Brilliant Colors, funnily enough. Good use of 12-string guitar as a rhythm instrument, rather than for picky jangle. The title track from the new album was an earworm all of yesterday.
