Wasn't the tonight thing meant to be a bit cobbled together? I saw Jon had billed it as an 'improv' thing. I'm sure Rachel will be there for proper dates.

Well, just got in, had to rush off straight after as we had to leave the TV on to tape Masterchef!

Setlist was something like (in no particular order)

Fists in the Pocket
I close my eyes to think of God
Realistes
Saturday Night Facts of Life
Why i try to look so bad
Raspberries
.. and i think 3 more that i didnt recognise.. new songs maybe.

Anyway, i'm sure i wont be the first to post this, but...

There was no Rachel.. Just David, John and Kaye, with Gary from the Cribs on drums. It was all very ramshackle and perhaps too under rehearsed, it was still great, but there was something lacking.

I hope she makes the trip to Ripley in July.

You didn't mention the Masterchef thing to me, sir!

But I agree - I thought it was great but without Rachel it didn't really work that well. And David Feck and Jon Slade were so hammered too. I dunno, I liked it and Fist in the Pocket and I Close My Eyes sounded great.

I've seen the band enough times to know you either expect greatness or a ramshackle performance.

If they get together for indietracks it'll most likely be amazing. I still can't wait for that.

Can't miss Masterchef, it's finals week - and our sky is buggered so we can only get the BBC through the analogue aerial, i had to leave the TV on whilst we were out last night - it's not really Rock 'n Roll is it, i'm sure Wave Pictures would have understood!

That would make more sense i guess, they posted a bulletin on myspace yesterday afternoon saying it was 'Comet Gain and friends' I think more than anything, it was just surprising to see them without her, it wasn't expected. Also, as i said to Pop Kid last night, 2 of the Shrag girls were there, they could have added Helen (thats the singer right?) to the 'and friends' line up..

Anyway, it's still Comet Gain and they're still fucking fantastic.

Was he at the Harvey Williams/Rose Melberg show? i don't recall seeing him, but he hasnt had his tail on for years..

Pink Kross wrote 'I wish i had a tail' about him.. In fact, i think that was the first time i ever saw him, sometime circa summer '96 at a Pink Kross show at the Monarch.
Davo, you are absolutely right. Rattail Jim wasn't at the Harvey Williams/Rose Melberg gig. He was at the spiral scratch Strawberry Story show, though :-) The singer of strawberry story took a lovely photo of all the people who were in the room that night. You can spot Jim at that photo. I' ll post it here when I find it.

Wasn't David and Comet Gain fantastic yesterday? I know that lots of people mentioned the lack of rehearsals but they still sound brilliant. I totally love them-I think they still carry something from the old mod/Northern soul style. I know that David deep inside is a fragile popper - his lyrics are unbelievably sweet.

Yeah great to see them back. They are having a surprise show in Brighton next month. I am thinking of going to.
I slice the surface here beside you/Lungs filled liquid yell I love you/Sound moves further underwater
Deep and dark my submarine bells groan in greens and grey/Mine would chime a thousand times/To make you feel okay..

Thanks for the setlist!

It must have been a shock not to see Rachel. Fingernailed For You is one of my favourites on the album. That bit in Raspberries though, near the end where it gets quicker and he's singing "You've been living out your life through half closed eyes", that's so great.

How long since they played in London?

They played at the Fortuna pop 10 year anniversary shows in August '06, David had bought over a bottle of wine from his vineyard in France (!) and passed it round the audience, i think he'd probably had a bottle or 2 himself before going on.

Apparantly they have a new single out in April, maybe through Puregroove records, or through someone who works at Puregroove or something..

Ooh, that fanzine looks good, off topic, but whats the Lung Leg feature?

Anyway, i couldnt make Brighton last night in the end, but i'm very happy to see Rachel present and correct in the pictures!

I thought he was absolutely the bee's knees, so much so that I blew a kiss at him when they supported Le Tigre at The Garage in some year or other and he looked absolutely disgusted. Quite right too, it was shocking behaviour on my part.
I was at that gig, late November 2000 it was, i remember the night as i found out soon after that a mate of mine was getting hold of my then girlfriend that night.. We all laugh about it now though.

Electrelane were the first band on that night, it was a great line up.

Ah, Jim wasn't odd, well, he had a leather tail, he was just quite quiet and reserved, and he had a 6ft tail.. Alright, he was ODD.

That might be because most of the bands Jim went to see featured young girls in short skirts quite heavily.

Excellent, I love Lung Leg, i'd like to read that. David was wearing a Lung Leg T-shirt when Comet Gain supported Ted Leo at the arts cafe a few years ago..

Just wanted to tie it all together..
