Is there anyway to see these?? So exciting :)

Otherwise for Comet Gain fans, if you go to the 2nd issue of the Twee as Fuck fanzine and follow the links you can read a full(ish) transcript of their interview, which is pretty, well....frank! x x

I read this yesterday and enjoyed it thoroughly. I have, however, been a bit obsessed with them lately. I find myself telling friends about how wonderful they are, speaking highly of their flaws and shortcomings and songs that aren't that great. I love them yet somehow I've made few converts.

If you come to "Twee As Fuck" @ Buffalo Bar in Islington tonight, there may be some advance copies of the 7" floating around!
Cheers!

Tonight, at the Macbeth, there were

Image

members of Comet Gain on stage, order has been restored in the world, bowling scores are way up, mini golf scores way down.

A whole bunch of new songs, a whole bunch of not-the-usual CG crowd pleasers. It was fucking excellent.

"love without lies" sounds great live. really heavy. they didn't play "books of california" cos david said he couldn't hit the high notes. and there were at least a couple of new songs that sounded good (plus one that sounded dreadful, the keyboard/synth seemed to be set on metalwork noises and sounded like an angle grinder behind the music).

i hadn't seen them play with a keyboard before, i don't think; that worked well. and it was cool to see a comet gain show so well attended, it felt like an event. pity david was having the problem hearing his guitar onstage, but it wouldn't be a comet gain show without some kind of mishap i guess. also, he can't seriously have forgotten the lyrics to "you can hide your love forever"? cos he managed to sing a self deprecating & somewhat lyrically similar version ... i wonder if he's tired of everyone loving that one song so much.

the new 7" is excellent, as is broken record prayers -- pleased it's more of an odds & sods collection than a greatest hits ... at first it felt like there were some notable omissions and strange inclusions, but having listened more it works well as an intro to the band as well as an essential purchase for fans (even if you have all the singles & comps, it has three peel session tracks + an unreleased song). definitely one of the best uk bands around. hopefully the other 7" will be out soon too.

They played that on Saturday didn't they? I can't remember how it went but the name is familiar. I only recall the one new song, it had 'weekend' in the title, that was pretty good, kind of shouty, i was pretty pissed though so it's all a bit faded.

There weren't nearly as many people there than i had expected - The Facebook invite had over 100 people attending - but that was actually really nice. It was still a good crowd, nice and appreciative of all the bands.

what's the current comet gain line up then? last time i saw them i think it was the following:

david feckless's newsagent
a vagrant found asleep in the bins behind the venue
christopher biggins
a deep sense of despair
a charcoal sketch of a dog
When the people are being beaten with a stick, they are not much happier if it is called 'the People's Stick.'

Current line-up is:

David
Rachel
Jon
Kay
Anne-Laure
Woodie

They've promised us that all 6(!) of them will be onstage at The Old Blue last gig, and they're planning to play all of thier singles (possibly in chronological order) in a Comet Gain jukebox style!

Incidentally, any chance of supply of a copy of Broken Record Prayers for review purposes? (Not for my blog, that's just be colossal self-indulgence, an actual proper well respected review site)

Woodie has a baby, so can't always play, hence the occasional sit in drummer.
